Hunting & Fishing 6.5 x 47 for a hunting rifle.

Re: 6.5 x 47 for a hunting rifle.

Never used it, but I can tell you by looking at the ballistics ect, it would be sufficient for game up to whitetail. I wouldn't recommend buying one for hunting deer though, as it is fairly new and harder to get a hold of ammo. From what i've read, It is a heck of an accurate long range round though. More of a bench rest or competition round.

Yup, my daughter has killed 2 deer with hers and I killed one with mine this year. Very good deer rifle and would not hesitate to use it on elk with a bonded or partition type bullet.
Range's on the deer 250~ yards, 333 yards, and 553 yards, all one shot kills. It is a reloaders round though. A friend of mine took an elk 2 years ago with his, don't remember the range or bullet he used. Another friend of mine shot his first bear with a 260 Rem using a 125 Partition and the 260 Remington and the 6.5x47L are near identical in performance.
Look at my other post and you can see some of the kills my daughter has made with hers.

If and when I ever go out west for speed goats, the 47L will be in tow. Here in Indiana we aren't allowed to hunt with rifles but I wouldn't get it a thought to shoot out to 600+ yds with it on deer. Shoot's like a dream and easy to find a rockin load for.

As stated above, its a reloader orientated bench rest type round... very accurate and has nice ballistics.

Im sure with correct shot placement you will have success.

Looking into this cartridge for the future.

I use one for hunting. Stay clear of Scenars would be my only advice. I shoot white tails with mine and the Scenars don't get much expansion. They pretty much pin hole.

Look at using either A-max or unting VLD's from Berger and you will be happy.
