barrel is throated long and the 123 Scenar is just touching at 2.750,,I have 1 round loaded ever .2 grs Varget from 37.6 to 41.0 and plan to shoot at 300 yards over a chronie and mark each shot on target and see if I can find a sweet spot with the 123 Scenars,,I have 400 140 HT but cant find any suitable powder,,with the Lapua x47 cases reputation of withstanding extreme pressures are there any special signs to watch for or a certain velocity I should stop at from a 28 inch barrel,,

I see the 123`s in stock for 325$ a 1000 that I would cabbage on if I can find a sub 1 inch at 300 yard load somewhere around 3,000 fps

I run 123 smk's with 38.2gr varget out of 26" Bartlein and a thunderbeast 30p-1. I run wolf magnum primers because they are consistent and have a very hard cup. As of this weekend, I have 150 rounds on the gun and the Magnetospeed shows that I am at 2960fps. My Trued up velocity is more like 2980. 2.695 OAL.

I personally feel like I am on the upper edge of pressure at that load, but the primers and case head don't show any signs of it. My bolt lift is a little sluggish, but it could be because of the huber trigger.

My money says that you'll find what you need between 37.8 and 38.2. My money also says that you'd better wear eye protection, and have a good plastic surgeon on retainer if you plan on shooting 40+ grains.

I dont plan on going any further than heavy bolt lift or flat primers,,I just wanted to have enough loaded to find the max,,I loaded up to 37.5 with the 140 Bergers and there wasnt any bad pressure signs, but the most accurate load was at 35.5,,

my throat seems to be a little deeper and may take a little more but we will see,,

how does the 123 Sierra shoot and have you tried the 123 Nosler,,they are a bit cheaper if they will shoot well

I went ahead and shot the other rounds I had loaded yesterday,,I started getting heavy bolt lift at 39.6 at 3125 fps,,the 40.2 charge started getting a shiny spot on case head at 3140,,the 40.6 charge had a little swipe at 3166,,in 90+ degree heat and 90% humidity,,from all testing the 38.1 load with a .025 jump loaded to 2.720 and changed to BR4 primers is shooting in the high 1`s low 2`s at 100 at 3/4 to 1 inch at 300 at 2970 fps,,

the max load in the chamber/throat is around 39.2 at 3100 fps but I was getting a flier ever 4-5 shots,,it shoots best at 38.1 2.720 oal and CCI BR4 primers at 2970,,,,

all loads 123 scenars

I am ready to rock,,

I am suprised at the velocitys your getting. I have 2 custom 260's, 1-8.5 twist bbls. 1-24" other is 26". I have shot lots of 123 SMK's and I run out of room in case before I ever get pressure signs with Varget. Without looking in my book I don't think I could ever hit 2900FPS. BUT, I have never got the velocitys some post on here about 260's and that is with a chrono, and figured from actual drop from a 100yd zero to 500yds. I was not satisfied with my 260's till I switched over to IMR4064, then I got my speed up to 3000FPS with the 123's.
