60k lbs of ammonium nitrate...

Heisenberg stole it.

The NSA/CIA/FBI (et al) had to make it look good for the next domestic terrorism attack they try to pawn off on some random extremist group.

Y'all know it's a helluva explosive, right ?
I know most get that....but there's always a slow lad or two in the crowd.
60k lbs and a few barrels of diesel mixed with dish soap could make for a helluva party.
Don't know why, but I'm thinking the OKC fed building was done with a van full of ammonium nitrate.....wasn't it ?
Perspective, I doubt even a 1 ton van could hold 6k lbs....and we be talkin bout 10 times that.

This was headed to an explosives plant so guessing it is in the form to be useful as an explosive.

Not all fertilizer is readily made into explosive.......which makes me consider OK in that they make it sound like "The went to Ace and bought a bunch of Scott's grass fertilizer" but no that had to be some processed material.

Where did they get it? They sat in the garage with a mortar and pestle processing it?

Fertilizer grade ammonium nitrate doesn't really make all that great of a base explosive due to needing so much of it. The OK bombing didn't use ANFO, it used ANNM which is considerably more powerful than ANFO.
The difference is in the ntirate content, isnt it? The nitrates are the key in low grade explosives, like black powder

ANFO uses fuel oil (diesel). ANNM uses nitromethate. As far as using fertilizer as an explosive such as binary targets for shooting, I think the sweet spot is around 32% nitrogen?
Which is why you cant buy high nitrate fert anymore. Thanks Tim.

Well, in the pyrotechnic field you can still get prilled ammonium nitrate that's like 90%. Certain nitrate salts like ammonium and sodium nitrates are terrible to use for pyrotechnics due to how fast they absorb moisture in the air (hygroscopic).
