Hoping to get some real world info on the SOLGW barrels. I don't reload so I'd be limited to the factory BC precision ammo.

the 5 i have as been in the last 4 years, not counting 23 and 24. on a few other forums i've read some have had bad barrels. most have been blanks that someone else chambered, tenoned and/or crowned. not sure who to blame, but the barrel maker always gets the blame. rifling issues would be the maker, but the maker has an escape goat. i try and get all done with same maker to exclude blames elsewhere. buck stops with them!

McGowan in-house finished barrels suck donkey balls. Their blanks are fine. I have first hand experience with both and the finish work on the in-house barrel was truly horrific. Have a Carbon Six barrel that is a definite winner and yes, it's made from a McGowan blank.

I had to send two barrels back to McGowan for a refund. Photos are posted here, just do a search.

Well I should have a 6mm max blaster soon and I'll be shooting the factory BC ammo. We'll see how it goes. I'm optimistic.

Biggest challenges for 6mm Max right now:

Lack of 30rd magazines, though it might not matter for precision gas-gun folks shooting 20rd with an extension.

Introduction of the Surefire ICAR/Magpul PMAGs and receiver set standardization for PPC/Grendel/ARC cases.

Single source of ammo from a small company.

Extreme Spread from tall propellant column not burning all the powder.

Pros:

Uses standard AR-15 .378” case head bolt

Performance similar to 6mm AR/6mm ARC with 90-103gr

What length? I'm running their 18". Play around with the 90-95's with around 30-30.5 grains of CFE223. I'm in almost single digit ES and 2850 FPS.

20 inch. This was rounds 6-10 down the barrel so speed isn’t there yet

oh wow... You're not gonna speed up too much. maybe 30-50 FPS. I'm not sure why they don't have CFE listed on their load data with the 90 grain bullets, but it's the way to go if you're looking for any kind of speed. TAC hit pressure in the low 2700's for me.

I would rather run H4895 at 2700 then chase speed. Low SD and ES are more important to me. This rig is for QP and DMR matches
