6mmBR-Norma and 6mmBR-Remington

Putting together a 6BR and looking to buy a set of dies.

I have read quite a few different posts/forums about the difference in BR-Norma and BR-Remington dies? Looking for some up to date information. Is the consensus that we need to stick with the BR-Norma, only?

Yea there's really no reason to buy rem if norma dies are so readily available.

I believe the necks of the REM are shorter. Could be wrong though

there’s also a difference at the 200 line.

CIP is the only place you'll find approved drawings of both. I'll include screenshots of both if you'd like to compare. The gist of it is that CIP has different rules for when a variation of a cartridge needs new nomenclature. CIP is also law where SAAMI is voluntary. CIP requires that if anything (even something small) would prevent a cartridge from be fired in a chamber.....new nomenclature is required. 6br Norma uses a longer throat and different twist barrel normally. So CIP considers this enough to require new nomenclature, hence 6br Norma instead of 6br Remington.

You'll find some other differences may have found their way into brass of each over time that's a bit different than the CIP drawings.

Some do find 6br Rem dies to work with 6br Norma, however it's far easier to just get a die match specifically for your cartridge.

Yes, in fact the .22 BR Remington are 1.52." I have late 1980s Bonanza-Forster .22 BR Remington Dies and same vintage 6mm BR Remington brass that I necked to .22 BR. I'm debating about doing a .22 BR again. However, when I used new 6mm Norma BR Lapua brass, I met resistance and the neck started to fold so I didn't push it. Good thing, as the Lapua brass is 1.56" and trying to shove it in a 1.52" die would not end well. So maybe I''' do a .223 AI or wait until 22 ARC instead.
