Was thinking i have a bunch of wolf ammo for my AK and i feel like i am wasting it every time i shoot it in the ak . I know the ak was not made to be a tack driver so is there a bolt action rifle in 762x39 with good accuracy or will the wolf ammo be pissin in the wind?

Re: 7.62x39 bolt gun worth my time?

I always thought 7.62x39 was made for that purpose(ak shooting) esp. wolf.

All the 7.62x39 that i have is only for the sks or ak. I would say, after you sight it in and dont want to shoot recreational anymore, dont waste it but save it for personal protection etc and buy spend the money you were worried about a bolt 7.62x39 for a bolt in another caliber.

So. i guess my vote is: yes, a 7.2x39 bolt rifle is a waste for the reasons you mentioned.

Hornady 7.62X39 123 gr V-MAX™ Steel Case
SKU: 8078 | 50/BX
MSRP: $42.48

Midway USA Price $32.99

Would be a nice home-defense round out of the AK.

The little CZ's are awesome. For their modest price, you get a rifle built as well as the best American pieces from the 1950's. Might make the Wolf type of ammo perform at a higher level. AG

My dad built a k98 into one and installed a follower block to make it feed properly.

It was incredibly accurate and with the higher pressures you can load it to over a 30-30 they're practically the same for ballistics.

With very heavy bullets and a fast twist barrel it would be a fantastic suppressed rifle in a bolt gun.

I never would have guessed it from the accuracy out of an SKS but that wolf crap ammo will shoot about 2 MOA. Handloads will shoot sub MOA.

Re: 7.62x39 bolt gun worth my time?

FNUSA has a new model rifle out called the TSR XP USA thats listed in 7.62x39 and .223. It appears to be on the extra short WSSM action. Jeff Cooper at Gunsite always said the 30-30 was the ideal police rifle when you consider the range they are used at and the over-penetration problems. Most police sniper type shots are just across the street or building to building and you certainly don't need a .300 mag for that, or even a .308.
Anyway, their web-site only has the product code for the .223, perhaps the 7.62x39 will follow soon if there is any interest.

Re: 7.62x39 bolt gun worth my time?

I bet that a 7.62x39 loaded with 118gr BIBs in a 17 or 18 twist barrel would be sweet. Should be very close to the 30BR. The 30BR holds slightly more powder than the 7.62x39, but I bet it would be a great sub 300M rifle.

Doesn't Lapua make brass for 7.62x39 as well?

Re: 7.62x39 bolt gun worth my time?

I didn't realize that the Lapua stuff was LR primer. Thats too bad really. I think SR primers would have better accuracy results.

While I've never seen a 7.62x39 Bolt gun, the 30BRs are insanely accurate and really perform in the shoot for score BR game. I suppose with some high quality brass, barrels and bullets, the 7.62 wouldn't be far behind.

I'm going to show my ignorance here, as well as my laziness (as I'm not willing to go get one of my reloading books), but what is the case head diameter of the 7.62x39?
