7 Rem Mag or 7 WSM for Tactical Rifle

Re: 7 Rem Mag or 7 WSM for Tactical Rifle

Two great rounds if most of your tactical shooting is North of 1000 yds.

If most of your shots are closer than 1Kyds, then no, I don't think very highly of them. Reason: They eat barrels like a fat girl eats twinkies......

Since you alread yhave a TAC 300 from the sounds of it, I'd skip the 7mm altogether and build a nice 264 Win Mag. Shoots flatter IIRC, and the bullets in the 140grn range are nice and slippery.

My understanding is that all of the remington ultra mags just eat the shit out of barrels.

Re: 7 Rem Mag or 7 WSM for Tactical Rifle

I would go 7MM Rem Mag with that long action you could at a later date build a .300 Win. Mag. or any long action magnum caliber. The 7 WSM is a short action but since that case is so fat, if you tried to build a .308, .260, I think you would have problems getting it to feed properly from the magazine. As a .308 case head is .470 and the 7 WSM is .533, that fat case is going to have a different width in the feed lips. Please keep in mind, I'm just looking at brass, I don't have a 7 WSM action to measure the feed lips.

The WSM cases feed fine out of a AICS mag. It does so well, AI is going to be introducing a 7WSM in a AE.
