8 twist / 26" or longer / 7mmRem Mag w/ throat extended...

SMK 183 or 197

Berger 190 or 195

Have Direct experiance with 197smk in a 30" 7rem mag / 8twist w/ h1000. it rocks -- just saying !!
Have Direct experiance with 180hyb un a 24" 7rem mag / 9twist w/ hh1000. it rocks -- umm..

how is it this is not a viable alternative for long to elr game ??

It absolutely is. It’s just not the new kid on the block.

Though, when talking real ELR (mile and beyond) hits and bullet splash’s get real hard to see. Add in a little mirage and it can be impossible.

I shot a 7 mag out to 1900 yards great success and now I run a 7mm-300 win mag and got it to 2k. Both using 197 smk couldn't ask for better results. I love the 197 but in small dose had great luck with the 183 and my new 7mm-300 will be running 183 smk to 2k. I seen a video 7mm-300 win mag 195 berger out to 3k. Only issue I see is spotting in difficult terrain or situations.

I’ve had my 7 saum with 190LRHT out to 3K many times and our out to 2 miles a couple times.
No problem getting there and getting hits as long as you can see them.

Spotting them would really be a pain in the ass.

For any real distance shooting 338 is the minimum caliber I’d consider for solids and there’s good argument that really it’s 375.

Hunting at moderate distances I could see a use.
100% on the spotting, the monos just bury in and or no splash

just wondering if the 7mm's are worth it in a mono

from what ive seen so far the really small (6mm and smaller) and really large monos (338 +) work well the middle of the road seem to be more hot or miss... no pun intended

The 7mms are so hard to beat I think just a great balance. I think perfect for the nightforce steel and hunter stuff.
Another thing a lot of people don’t consider is how easy it is to shoot them.
More than once people struggled to get hits at a mile plus with 338’s then I put them on my 7 saum and it’s all smiles and impacts.

I agree the recoil with a good brake is nothing. I spot myself easy out to 2k and I can put 100s of rounds down range in one day. We will see how much this 30 nosler and 250 a-tip kicks and see if it's worth it.

With the 197 smk I use a g7 of .405 and in the 7mm-300 win mag you can push it to 3000. So not sure if the solids are even worth it because of that bullet. The 183 smk g7 .377 and I'm hoping for 3100.
