7 saum

I was shooting 166 gr A-Tips. Figures aren't in front of me but it was not up to speed yet. According to Quickload data around 60 was about top but it had a way to go yet. I'm thinking it was around 2700-2800. Should be able to get 2900 with that bullet. My RL-26 came in so I switched to that with a known load with hunting bullets. I intend to run a few rds with Magpro fairly soon. If the wind will ever go to a 0 influence.

I won't be doing load dev until my barrel and action come in which will be around late FEB. So if you get some numbers let me know please.

Well I got a bunch of speed checks today but really nothing on accuracy. 20 degrees and wind blowng 20-30 mph from about every direction at once. I shot a Magpro load of 63 grs x 166 gr A-Tip. CCI 250. Didn't check COL as basically speed only. That load averaged 2775 out of a 22" barrel.
I found some data from earlier that I ran last summer. 64.5 grs was 2860 fps and 65 grs was 2870 fps. Both with 166 gr A-Tip x CCI 250. I had the 64.5 load starred so it must have shot very well.

I also shot a H4831 SC load of 62 grs that ran 2920 fps. Hodgdon lists 63 as top charge but I will back it off a couple tenths and shoot for accuracy. I got a small swip on the case head. I think 2900 out of a 22" barrel is pretty decent. Someone had suggested H4831 SC before so I thought it was worth a shot. Looks good so far.

So what's the consensus with the Sierra 183gr as far as seating. I have a long action so mag length isn't an issue. Do sierras like to jump or be close to the lands. Never shot sierras before. Always berger or Hornady.

Thanks in advance

I got my best results with closer to the lands than I normally run.
I usually start at .020 off but the 183 seems like the old VLD’s.

H4831 is amazing with 160 class bullets.
Shot a couple 3 rd loads yesterday with H4831SC x 166 gr A-Tip. Wind was very minimal but mirage coming off the snow was horrible and certainly didn't help accuracy. 61.5 grs shot very well considering how shitty the conditions were, I managed to drop a couple in the same hole. That was with mag primers so now to test mag vs std and run a short ladder at distance. Thanks for the recommendation.

Looking for some input on how to get my new saum barrel chambered. It's on a tikka action so can go a little longer. For now I have a stash of 180g hybrid targets but would like to be able to run heavier bullets down the road too. How much freebore should I ask the Smith to add?

There are more knowledgeable 7 SAUM experts on here, but from what I've gathered, the consensus seems to be 0.180" freebore if you want to go anything more than SAAMI standard 0.090". Going with this much freebore is best done with a longer action which you seem to have in the Tikka. I'm putting one together using a Mausingfield long action and 0.180" is the freebore I'm going to see if my gunsmith can support.

Some really useful information here. Thinking of a Tikka Super Varmint in 6.5 PRC to eventually convert to 7mm SAUM. Looks like it will have enough space to accommodate the 7 SAUM with the heavy bullets. As long a the bolt face is correct I don't think it matters which T3X you use?

I've shot both and 7 Saum is quite a bit better in my opinion. You won't go wrong. And I like the 6.5 Saum/Gap better as well.

That's good to know. The 6.5 PRC would just be the donor given that it's not easy to get parts and build a rifle over here. I could get a custom built but that would be a lot more expensive up front, not sure I'm that patient!

Correct, the donor action doesn't matter. You will just have to run the correct bolt stop and mags.

Been neglecting my 7 saum
Switched out the 338 barrel for the 7 mm barrel yesterday.
Such a fantastic cartridge
Shot it from 530 to 2020 yards today.
190 LRHT with R26 at 2850.
This barrel is starting to slow down after 1500ish rounds just like my last barrel.
I’ll make one or two powder adjustment’s then retire it.

Mind sharing your CBTO/COAL and charge weight with RL 26?

What freebore are you running? Also, what BCs have you found line up with 183s and 190s? I know it depends, but I won't have a chance to really stretch my 7ss out and verify dope before a match this weekend

Finally getting mine out on Sunday. Will have pics and such. Loaded up 100 rds of a middle weight charge of MagPro under 183, 180 and 197gr pro all 20ths off lands. Get all brass fire formed to my barrel. Then load dev time.

What action length are you running with?
Oops, never mind, see a LA

Has ADG brass shipped and I missed out? I had an order in with Creedmoor Sports, but they didnt know if I would get filled or not. I could have sworn ADG was hoping to ship 7SAUM brass in March.

I got the email from Manners 2-3 weeks ago and paid for my stock, just waiting on shipment. The only thing I need for this build now is brass... sort of important, lol.
