At the end of my deer hunt the other day I had a group of Bobcats come come out on me at 120 yards. The damage was brutal but our rut hasn't started yet. I've shot several does so far out to 300 and have been really impressed. Do you think the bullet will hold up fine on large bucks? Can you shoot them in the shoulder?

Hmmm, I think you could shoot them in the shoulder, but I wouldn't if I didn't absolutely HAVE to. Plus, who wants bloodshot meat? The VLDs seem to explode once they've entered the animal a bit. I don't know if they'd get into the vitals before they broke a part.

I really like the fragmentation of the VLDs. They work incredibly well for neck shots and lung/heart shots. If you're looking to punch through heavy muscle though, I'd probably take a different bullet.

I would do that to a 'yote any day of the week, but not to a $500 bobcat. I'm assuming you don't see those kind of prices for prime cats.

Shoot the VLD's. I shoot the same combination and have seen similar results. From coyotes to elk, not a problem for the VLD's. I destroyed a coyote at 100 yards, but a big old badger at 330 was perfect. I think wether or not you hit bone, and impact velocity determine quite a bit about terminal performance.

While this has been talked about over and over I will give you my experience.

NOTHING....NOTHING....KILLS LIKE A BERGER!!!!

They are amazing!!! They anchor BIG bucks better than anything other bullet I have ever shot. Every deer or other animal I ever shot with my 280 Ackley hit the dirt instantly. I even took a marginal shot at a big 10 point chasing a doe. He was running her dead away from me and the only shot I had was right up the butt. It anchored him! When I cleaned him he had lots of bullet fragments in is neck so bullet penetration was not a problem. With the extreme accuracy and performance I have seen it is my bullet of choice. If you dont feel go about them try the tried and true Nosler Partiton. They have never let me down.

DO NOT USE THE TARGET VERSION. THEY WILL NOT EXPAND AT ALL.

GOOD LUCK!!

I have buddies that have passed on bobcats because they were running Bergers in their 7 WSM and knew they would destroy the pelt. This happened while deer hunting. They just watched them and went about their day. Here in Washington a prime large light colored bobcat can fetch up to 475-500.00 a piece. I've found a .243 Win and a 100gr Hornady inter lock works great on bobcats. For whatever reason it kills them stone dead and leaves about a quarter size exit. V-Max's destroy them.

Re: 7 WSM & 180 VLDs vs Bobcats! Big buck test???

It depends on the caliber you use. The Vmax's out of my .204 don't tear them up and drop 'em deader than sh!t. I guess the old saying of having the right gun for the job is applicable here.

Hahahaha! Washington State only requires a hunting license and there is no limit. It's a Bobcat free for all!!!!
