7mm-08 162 A-max with rl-17 or 2000mr

Does anyone here have any load data with reloader 17 or 2000mr for the 162 A-max in 7mm-08? I'm using H4350 now and would like to get a little more velocity. Alliant lists 2000mr at 2700fps at 2.800 OAL. I am currently shooting 2.835 OAL which feeds from my AI mags. If anyone has data for AI mag length that would be very helpful. Thanks

Not sure what rig you have, but you should be able to hit mid 2800's with the H4350. How fast do you want to push them? I haven't worked with either of those powders, but have done quite a bit with H4350.

I've been chasing my tail with 8208XBR until recently. I live in an area with radical temp swings and wanted to use this to keep from having two or 3 different loads. I figured out that I could go about 4.5 full grains above what the Hodgdon site says and I'm running high 27's to low 28's with no pressure signs yet.YMMV

I realize it doesn't really answer your question; but I've been bustin' my tail trying to get on top of this after arguing with 4350 for a while and thought I'd share

I have some 2000MR en-route as well as some more 162 Amax's (or is Amax plural?) Get 'em while you can, seems that it's going to be a while before you can get more

Take the minimum load for 4350 and drop three grains. That is the starting point for RE17. You will work up to around a grain or two of 4350.

FWIW, it seems my load, for a 7mm-08, of RE17 is 42.5? with a 168 Sierra. for a velocity of about 2730. That is right at minimum for 4350. So, drop a few and see what you work up to.

I found I4895 got me the best speed before running into pressure problems with my 7-08.

What length barrel? This will be a big help. Thanks. Only info I can find for 2000mr is at 2.800 OAL. What can I expect with the longer OAL besides a little more case capacity. I already have some re17 but couldn't find a starting load listed anywhere.

It's a 700sps varmint. stock chamber with 26" barrel. My H4350 load is only 2650fps. It's a good accuracy node but I don't think I will have enough case capacity to reach the next one.

quickload shows 2683 FPS with r17 and a 42.0gn charge.and thats with the bullet seatted at 2.800.but this is one grain less from a red zone load.so if you are able to hange the bullet out a little more you might be able to get it some what faster.

26" barrel.

Sorry in my first post I should have been a little clearer. Start Re17 about 3 grains below 4350 minimum. You should end up some where around the starting point of 4350 for a max of Re17.

Why are you loading IMR8208 in 7mm-08? That's a fast powder. Meant to compete with AA2015 and VV N135. Not a good choice for the 7mm-08. Especially with heavy bullets.

Hodgdon's Reloading Book has IMR 8208 XBR as a decent powder choice for the 162's with at start load of 36.2g @ 2499fps and max of 40.2 @ 2725. And I've found this book to be conservative in the past. Similar max loads for H4350 is 48.0 compressed at 2714 for comparison.

I'm thinking Hodgdon (who owns IMR) is pushing this as a marketing agenda. It will work and it's very accurate powder. But, it won't give best velocity and from what I know about reloading, best accuracy.

FWIW, AA did the same thing with XMR2015. That stuff is great Benchrest powder. Very accurate and consistent in small cases. But, when you move it up to larger cases, you get too much pressure before you get velocity no. 1 and no. 2 with the newer retardants being made to coat the powder, you start getting inconsistencies at above normal pressures where the retardant kicks in. It will help a little but not to the point it's going to compete with 4350 and slower powders.
