8mm x 57 recipes?

Re: 8mm x 57 recipes?

Varget and H4895 are great for the 8mm. H4895 Worked the best though, and top of my Head I can't recall the load I used with the 200 sierra and accubond but it was 2750 fps. Stout load, but no pressure signs for me. It was also very easy to drive the 180 Nosler BT to 2900 Fps in the old mauser with H4895, and 150's to 3050, or more, as well. Sort of copies the Turk surplus loads, and they beat you to death!
These are all very very stout loads mind you and you definately need to ease up to theose levels, but the action and round can take it. I made my own brass from Nickle 30'06 so I could keep it seperated easily.

Try to find some european spec loads. I basically cross referenced some burn rates with some Euro loads to find a starting point, as I was very dissapointed to say the least in US loads. Seems they are scared someone will use them in the older GEW 98 with the .318 bore. I wish I were back in the states right now, I have pages and pages of loads for a K98 I could scan and send for a good reference/starting point. The 8mm is easy to load and can be very accurate. With good euro loads it can throw nice heavy hunting rounds fairly quick with good accuracy. Should pretty much work for anything on our continent. I mean its hard to argue with a 200 Gr Accubond at 2700fps for getting the job done. And hunting with an old bolt gun is fun and a different experience altogether.

As a side note , I have a SWR Omega30 they made for me that was bored to accept .323/8mm rounds as well and have a K98 ( post war) that I threaded and the 220 Hornady with 10.0 of red dot gave me right at 1000 Fps and is very quiet too. The SWR on the 5R is just as quiet to the ears as a friends that is not bored over. So I got a little more unique use out of it.

I normally use 50 gr. of IMR 4064 behind a 200 gr. bullet. Rem 700 Classic.

Today, since I was out of IMR4064 I used h4895. 48.5 gr. behind a 200 gr. pill. That puts it out at 2600 fps.
