Enclosed please find a link to a story about a 92 year old blind Marine who was attacked because of the flags he flies in front of his house.

I wish they could find these idiots and give them 5 or 6 years of community service at veteran homes or the VA. Don't put them in jail, make them serve those who served.

Greg, you are one of the guys around here whose opinion I respect and revere.

But in this case... the people who assaulted this gentleman were not only committing a felony, they were committing felony assault while they were being stopped from desecrating the symbol of the Constitution that protects their vile viewpoint and lifestyle choice and ideology... by a man who put his life on the line to defend The Flag, The Constitution and, just as importantly, his buddies next to him.

I wish ill-will on noone who does not deserve it. And we have a Constitution to protect those whose free speech we may, personally, revile. But when people, on any side, go 'hands-on' and commit felony assault against any human being, much less a man who served his nation with honor... in order to attack a symbol that we all respect... I can't bring myself to practice much tolerance at all. Perhaps it is a flaw in my character.

Perhaps with age I will mellow.

Again, as always, I respect your opinion and insight. In my eyes, you've never had anything but good things to say. But in this case I will state that I hope they can catch these mooks and charge them to the hilt. And convict them. And put them behind bars. Not for having appalling, sick, treasonous opinions. That's their right. But for committing a felonious assault. In short, for having the gall to put their hands on a fine citizen. Because that is the line that noone can cross in the name of free speech.

I committed one yesterday. I was at Lowe's and this old(er) couple were trying to get a screen door into a Toyota Camery and secure it with cords with about 5 feet sticking out the back. I could see how that would end up so since I was in my van and had nothing much to do I offered to take it to their home for just a couple bucks for gas. They were tickled. Turns out they had already had one go out the back of a smaller car and were thinking the Camry might work. Seems I made a good call.

I figure what goes around comes around and someone will help me out up the road.

Let me be clear on how I was thinking, community service was 5 or 6 years of serious community service, not the Kim Kardshian community service. I want them to go home at night felling like assholes. I went them to cry like babies when they reflect on beating up an old man, I want them to feel lower than whale shit when they think about fucking with a veteran, let alone a WWII veteran. I don't think sending them to prison is bad enough, I don't care if they didn't even get any lube and continuously gang raped, it's not as bad as realizing how fucked up they are. AND after 6 years if they still don't understand they aren't worth the shit stain in someone's tighty whiteys, THEN introduce them to Vlad the Impaler. And at that point, put them up in DC at the WWII monument and let it be a sign to the rest of 'them'. Sorry - some things just piss me off.

Greg thank you for your thoughtful comments. I think it is a wonderful idea to try "committing a random act of kindness" often. Yet in this case I would like to deliver a random punch to the scrotum followed up by a random eye gouge, then snapping some random fingers and other joints. I can't help but remember my father who was a WWII vet, into his sixties my dad could have taken most young punks down a notch. As he entered his eighties this was no longet true. Any one who would hurt a child or a helpless elder needs to be shown what the feeling of helplessness feels like.

Folks like these tend to be repeat offenders. Pretty soon they end up taking too big a bite. Thus, we have a self correcting problem.

...Or, they are also usually drug offenders, and I think we can figure out where that takes them. Again, it's a self correcting problem.
