Any reviews on the Hornady 95 grain V-Max from Copper Creek and Hornady 95 grain ammo?

I haven't shot 6.5 CM for over 4 years, I was using a 26 inch Shilen Select Match barrel on a Savage action. Was getting half inch groups at 200 yards with Copper Creek ammo.

Just finished an AR in 6.5 Creedmoor, not expecting it or me to shoot over 500 yards. I have some Hornady 147 ELD-M coming but was looking over at Copper Creek.

Really intrigued by their 95 grain Hornady V-Max for several reasons.

First the recoil will be less than a 147 grain and I have a VERY BAD shooting shoulder. I know how to build low recoil AR large frame rifles because of this.

Recently getting great groups from my 4 pound AR308 with 110 grain Nossler factory ammo.

So looking at the specs the Copper Creek Hornady 95 V-Max is really flat shooting, out of a 24 inch barrel 3310 fps and only 21.6" drop at 400 yards and only 68" drop at 600 yards. The Hornady specs states only 16.9" drop at 400 yards? A plus is the Hornady ammo is almost $14 a box less.

Will be using a Faxon 18" Match Series barrel with 8 twist and 5R. So I expect 100 to 150 fps less, but still will be faster than the 147 grain Hornady factory ammo.

I was wondering the same about copper creek ammo as I’ve been looking into some different ammo and don’t really have the time to reload my self. As far as only being able to shoot your ar out to 500 you should be able to go way on past that I’ve put mine out to 1350 without issue using Hornady 147 eldm ammo

Not that I wouldn't love to shoot at 1000 yards or greater. I just don't have easy access to long ranges and I am getting old and eyes just aren't making it now. My strongest scope is a FFP 35 power, most are 24 power scopes. Great for 100 yards as I can read the target and see every point of impact.

I have used Copper Creek for both my 6.5 Creedmoor 5 years ago, and for my 308 ammo. They come up with some interesting ammo you can't find from the major producers, I don't reload anymore.

I gotcha, and I think I’m going to try out one of there load development packs for my defiance build I will be getting back from Beanland rifles in about a month now

That’s good to know I just ordered a pack, I’ll probably put 100 rds of some hornady eldm through it then shoot some groups with their pack and see how it does

Just found out Federal is loading Hornady 95 grain V Max for the 6.5 Creedmoor. Federal Hornady 95 grain V Max

On back order already but at under $19 a box and only $2 a box for shipping a great deal.

At least to start out I can order 2 boxes of the Federal 95 grain for the price on one CC and I can always sell the once fired brass.
I used the Federal load for 60 rounds and wasn’t impressed. My 6.5 shoots 120’s and 140’s very well. The 95 was bad enough that I didn’t bother to measure groups.

Found this. Top left is the control group, from a cold barrel. All groups are 5 rounds shot from a bench/Bipod/rear bag. Rifle was allowed to cool 15 minutes between groups.

I'm hoping that the Federal 95gr VMAX shoots well since I just ordered 6 boxes of it. I'm hoping to drill some yotes and groundhogs with it out near Great Falls here in the spring. Possibly some north idaho wolves before then. We will see!

I didn't have very good luck with the Hornady loading. It grouped really well with the magnetospeed attached, but around 1.5 - 2 moa without. The first time I've seen the magnetospeed affect group size instead of shifting POI.

Averaged right at 3150 fps from an 18" tube.
I did kill my elk with em this year while out looking for coyotes, but after re-shooting to check zero I found my rifle didn't care for them.

I'm really hoping for the best with this loading, but if it doesn't work out Oh well. One nice thing about it being pretty cheap at $18 a box. I'll go back to the 130 Bergers which shoot extraordinarily well out of my Seekins.

This was a rpr shooting 95 Hornady at 3130 at 385 yards.
I'm seeing 3200 out of my 20 in gasser and .75 moa all day with the federal. It's pretty decent for just throwing it in a mag and running itView attachment 7224274
Dang, 3200 is good for a 20" rifle. I'm hoping the CTR I'm gonna get with a 20" barrel will run it that hot. Would be a good load for varmint splattering with it.
