I've pretty much got my load down for .308 and now I'm going into 9mm and .45 reloading. I'm not looking for match grade ammo but I would like to have some that is consistent and if it takes match grade loads then fine. My question is what kind of powders, bullet weight, etc. is everyone using and what kind of results are you getting?

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

HS-6 and Titegroup are excellent powders. I load Hornady 115grn FMJ for practice loads. HS-6 has them going about 1200fps and grouping nicely.

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

After getting my 308 load development to a level I felt was acceptable I moved to my 9mm loads also.

My first batch was 124gr plated Berry bullets and unique powder.

I had two pounds giving to me so that's why I chose unique. I'm not a match pistol shooter but felt good about my 5.0gr and 5.5gr loads and there groupings.

That's all the info I can offer at this time

Best of luck

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

I use WST for both. 9mm -125 Gr Missouri Bullet over 4.3 Gr WST.

45 - 200 Gr LSWC from Mo. Bullets over 4.5 Gr WST. BOTH ARE SOFT AND CLEAN. Sorry, caps lock. I know the 9 is light for power factor, but have not had time to chrono the 45 yet.

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

I'm running similar loads.

9mm - 122 gr Rn (Magnus bullets)lead with 3.8 WST. I've also tried up to 4.6 with the same bullet. At 4.6, they're getting snappy but still not bad.

45 ACP - 200gr SWC (Magnus bullets) over 4.3gr of WST. Very accurate and clean. I love this load. Well over 200k through my 1911's.

Be sure to use hard cast lead. Swaged are too soft in my opinion and jacketed are not worth the extra cost.

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

For lead cast bullets, ie Missouri Bullets, you can not beat VV N320. Min. smoke and well great accuracy. Of course this comes at a price...VV N320 is almost twice the price of other options......

Uniuversal Clays is a good option, with cast bullets I would suggest staying away from the faster burning powders to decrease smoke.

I would look at Precision Delta or Montana Gold for jacketed bullets in bulk. Berrys plated bullets is another option. Their 45 Cal 185 HBRN is great bullet with a charge of Titegroup....

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

I don't load 9mm. For 45 I use Win 231, good clean powder.
I tried Universal Clays, dirtiest shit I've ever seen, would have bought an industrial parts cleaner if I would have continued using it.
Any Win pistol powder is good, 231, WSF, WST.

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

For full house loads, 124gr bullet, HS6 and mag primer in 9mm and 185gr or 230gr bullet, Ramshot Silhouette and Win LP primer in .45. For light plinker, HP38 works well in both (standard primer in 9mm).

No I don't load .45. Don't own one.

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

I use TG for 9mm, 3.2gr of it under a 147gr berry's plated bullet. For 45, W231, I can't recall the charge weight, but I use the same for 200 & 230gr lead bullets.

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

45 auto: Power Pistol and Hornady 185gr XTP
9mm: Power Pistol and Hornady 124gr HP

I've just started using Precision Delta bullets in place of the Hornady, and they've been fine.

For W231 and a MB 200 Gr LSWC, I ran 5.6 Gr W231 which made an avg. of 870 fps.

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

WST for both 9 and 45
4.6 for both
Billy Bullets 135rn around 1000fps always makes power factor from mixed range brass
Billy Bullets 225fn or 230rn makes power factor from mixed range brass have to check the crono numbers later.

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

I have run and tried many of the powders listed here for 9mm.
I have also run and tried many of the projectiles listed.

The Montana Gold 124 JHP are very nice and very accurate, but they are made with harder gliding metal (brass) and therefore as a defensive ammo they may not perform how you want them to. There is a video on Youtube of a guy shooting them through water logged newspaper in gallon jugs, and they do not expand very well. In action pistol, they are great for me because they are accurate as I mentioned. They need to be loaded too short (1.080) in my CZ's (SP01) so I have moved on from them.

I like Zero 125 JHP the best right now for a JHP. Nice design which allows me to load them @ 1.150 + if I want to (and have).

Right now I am very happy with Win WSF @ 5.0 gr. under a Zero 125 gr. JHP. or an Xtreme 125 RN plated bullet. Perfectly accurate, nice and clean and WSF meters exceptionally well, and is dirt cheap compared to VV N320 which I think is a waste of money for how I practice. Win WSF @ 5.0 gr. nets me 1100 fps with either of those bullets +/- a few fps.

I found Win 231 to be really dirty and not at all to my liking.

There is not a lot of data floating around on WSF for handgun loads, so I started slow and worked up to 5.4 gr, saw a peak in velocity and worked back down to the current 5.0 load I use now (and have for months)..... Well over 6000 rounds down the pipe.

Where does you PF come out with this load?

Thanks

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

These guys have already given you good answer. So why am I even posting.Yeah to offer my 2 cents worth.HP38 231 are great for both, but use HS6 for a 124gn HP in my 9mm fo SD bullets.

Re: 9mm &.45ACP reloading

I have good luck with Ramshot Zip as a all around powder. In 45 for accuracy W231 in 45 and Tightgroup or Clays for 9mm. I still stick to Zip so I only have to stock 1 powder for most all of my handgun loads.
