A 3rd world nation for certain now

I think CA has a forestry management problem. When fires get that big there isn't much can be done but just watch the show at that point. I am almost 50 so my memory goes back to the 80s till now and I don't recall as a kid in the 80s CA ever having fires the way they do now.
They did, just more in your face with the internet. I remember as a kid living in the CO rockies and actually having CA smoke rolling over the mountains in the late 80s.

If you can look at the Arcgis Wildfire page and bring up the Historical Burned areas. Very sobering looking at CA and OR. Back in the 80’s there was a lightning storm up near the Lava Beds Natl Monument that created several thousand. Spot fires. By the end of a couple days they had burned into a single fire. (Scar Face Incident).

Here is Watch Duty app showing historical burned areas, but it is only showing the last 5 years, maybe.

A huge part of the problem, or maybe the main problem is part of the alphabet soup-USFS. It’s all about the money. We see it every year here in Idaho. It starts burning and those bunch of money grubbers have to let as much acreage burn as possible so they get a bigger budget next year. Not a bigger budget to pay the ground pounders more, but a bigger budget to help offset their brand new trucks and Gucci gear to cruise around looking cool. Meanwhile there is a worsening shortage of those peons in green and yellow. Also, to the op, water is great, but the people have to know how to use it. I’ve seen guys go through hundreds of gallons in a couple minutes and then you’re stuck with spit and pee if you’re not too dehydrated already. We had a building burn in town a few months ago (the mayor’s bar🤣). The local “expert” fire department put somewhere north of 160,000 gallons on it and basically drained the town’s reservoir. Meanwhile the building was a total loss and the adjoining buildings were damaged extensively. Also, the use of water via helicopter for wildfire is great. It’s not used to put the fire out. It is used to cool an area for the ground crew to continue operations, and it’s used to help bolster a line that is in danger of splash over/overrun. Final word-listen to what @akmike47 is saying. You might not like his tone, but he very obviously knows fire

It’s not DEI it’s called mutual aid you retarded fuck. Departments help other departments constantly again like you said, you have no clue what the fuck you’re talking about.

DEI is putting a lesbian in charge because she’s a lesbian, accepting help from Mexico is them being good neighbors and wanting to play with fire.
Yea I aware of the difference. Thank you always so helpful .
glad my meme triggered you ya limp fuck fucktard. Are you writing g a white paper to help stop the fires with all your fire knowledge and winning personality?

I’ve got more memes if you can handle them.

This was erroneous, Davis was the drive beak from their point of origin. Still don’t understand needing a Safety Inspection on the way TO an incident.

Newscum holding out of state fire equipment at Sacadementia to make sure they met CA CARB (air quality/smog) requirements. There should be a loop hole for equipment in an emergency, although they don’t seem to be doing that to the equipment coming in from Mexico.

Edited after getting some clarification from a departmental source. Again, my bad for not digging into the issue.

FWIW I am 2 hours South of the Oregon Border and LA is another 8-9 hours South of me at freeway speeds.

possible so they get a bigger budget next year
Same reason the Foundation Savers go to every fender bender “we went to xxxx incidents last year give us more money “

Around here they are in a race to see who can get the biggest volunteer fire department built. No simple steel sided Morton style buildings. All out $$10-30 million giant glass / architectural features galore monstrosities. Meanwhile the towns they “support” are full of falling down houses people can’t afford to replace their roofs / siding.

Squirrel Squad strikes again

That is all on Gov Newsom, and to some extent, when he was in office, Gov. Schwarzenegger. Not building dams and reservoirs because of worrying about some damned bird.

The people of LA and Cali can fix this but they have to want to fix it.
You can say this all goes back to when Reagan was gov. The Auburn Dam, for instance, was a thing... Democrats and environmentalists opposed it. It took years to finally kill it for good but stands as a prime example of leftists priorities.
Currently, a project called "twin tunnels" is the bigger fight within Dept. of Water Resources for CA.
As far as Arnold was concerned, while I am not a fan, one really cannot place blame on him at all for anything that happened in the state. He literally had no power at all and he gave up trying halfway through his term. Democrats are a super majority in CA and blocked everything and anything The Governator tried to do whether it was beneficial or not. Democrats weren't going to let him do anything he could take credit for.
Democrats even canceled the meals on wheels for seniors program just to make him look bad. That's evil.

I spent 30 summers making a metric shit ton of money on large scale campaign wildland fires mostly Type 1 and Type 2 fires. I worked all over the ICS map, Operations, Logistics, Safety, and Planning. I avoided Finance other than to not piss them off. Great memories. I also spent 30 years in the volunteer service. When I was young and full of energy, inside of me was the chant, all fires start small, all fires start small, and I hit them with the greatest of enthusiasm. As I grew older, wiser, and gained experience, I realized all fires go out, all fires go out... ;).

Maybe I am just cynical, but my take on the California fire is perhaps overly simplistic. It just seems to me that Californians are going to Californiacate (is that a word)? Structures are just another fuel model, and what a great bunch of YouTube videos.

That begs the question of why are those dems still in power? And it also goes back, somewhat, to the people of California. They can remove the evil sacks of shit from their offices. But they have to want to do it.

People are dumb. They believe the BS they are told. Big welfare state. They aren't voting to have benefits cut. Huge state where academia is concerned (Berkeley, UCLA, Stanford and etc). There's a college on every corner. Communists all that crank out ever more good little Marxists. Hollywood. The state as a whole is slowly changing, though.

I live in CA, and much of the above is true. Also many persons here trust the news, and they cannot see the truth. There are numerous instances where laws are voted on by the citizens, where I fully doubt the results. CA is controlled by the Dems and I am 100% sure they are cooking the books.

Perhaps with the new president, voter ID will be required. With it, and with mail in balloting, the Dems will try and steal every election. If we are lucky, enough people in LA will realized they have been lied to, and we MIGHT get change.
