Hiders,

Val from Valdada doesn't get on the internet much but he is keenly aware of the Hide and it's standing in the online shooting community. Val called me and wanted to extend a big "Thank You" to you guys for all the support this year. I know we've had a few hiccups with the 3-18 FFP but it wasn't for lack of passion or the desire to provide the best optics at the best value. Val appreciates your continued support of IOR products and promises to never stop innovating for the shooting community.

For the rest of the month, Valdada has a special promotion only for the Hide members, through Liberty Optics.

Buy any 2.5-10x42 FFP or new Gen 4 3-18x42 FFP scope from now through Dec. 31, and get a free Valdada RDS Edge Red Dot scope with standard fixed tactical ring! This is a $200 value! This is a nifty red dot with exposed 1/2 moa knobs.

Valdada RDS Edge

This is a great deal. Thanks for your consideration.

Retroactive all the way back to the Gen 1 SH 3-18/42 FFP scopes? Mine is still going strong after all this time. Go IOR!! Yahoo!!

How's that for being good?

Re: A Thank You from Valdada to the Hide

Does the 3-18x42 FFP have mil/mil adjustments?

Are these illuminated?

How many mils per turn on that elevation knob?

Is the standard fixed tactical ring the ring used to mount the scope? If not, what are people using to mount these things?

Re: A Thank You from Valdada to the Hide

I love IOR they should hire me. I push hard and have sold a lot of scopes for them. 17 people so far sold their MK 4 and went IOR lol. They get to the range with me shoot a while then they ask to shoot mine and then rant and rave about how great my scope is and then they all go buy one lol. 3 police depts. switched so far lol Merry Christmas from me to IOR

Re: A Thank You from Valdada to the Hide

Just ordered the HS Version of the 3x18. Very nice and helpful lady on the phone. This will be my first Valdada Scope and it will be mounted on a 700p. Look forward to using it.

Re: A Thank You from Valdada to the Hide

Mine arrived Friday. Great little red dot scope. Fit and finish are very good. Looks very durable. Haven't taken it out to the range but but it should hold up good on a flat top AR.

Re: A Thank You from Valdada to the Hide

I need to get some info from some tried and true IOR believers to get "all" sides of the story.

I have been a lifelong Leupold guy......I grew up close to them. still live in the general area and love the custom shop. I know as a former operator on multiple continents and even just now being a rough country hunter you can't make small precise instruments made with glass and tiny moving parts they don't weigh 100lbs that won't break sometime.

To me IOR's have always looked like tanks....huge objectives.....but they have had the rep "looks like tarzan plays like Jane" sorta thing. Plus I have heard more than few people.....granted 2-3 years ago state that not only do they break too often but when they do the company doesn't care to much to help out the buyer. Now I have done my searches and even the guys who have gone through a couple IOR's seem to be getting replacements in a timely manner?? True/Untrue.....is service better now.........is the scope anymore hardcore than before? Man they look hardcore and they have features nobody else offers for that kinda money.........and the MP-8......well top notch.

My concern is for those guys like me who only do bench work for load development and are otherwise teaching fieldcraft, tactical shooter or hunting I want a scope AND a company I can count on. I have big miles on 2 scopes the Mark 4 and Super Sniper. With Leupold I can drive there still in under 11/2 and get one fixed, tour the shop, have upgrades put on like Jiffy Lube or just swap a scope for a new one if one goes bad. Leave in the morning be shooting again by afternoon. Now I have never had one fail me though....And with SS Chris down at SWFA had me mail him back a scope I had to swap out and before he received my old one a new one was here in 24 hours with a return shipping label GTG.

Is IOR better and do they care about their scope buyers?

Up until I got a 3 x 18 IOR I didn't know much about other scopes. I have four MK4's from 10x to 3x-10 and a 4.5 - 14 so I do know exactly what a Leupold Tactical Scope looks and feels like. I can tell you this, the IOR glass is a lot clearer then the Leupold. It is not even close. I have put the MK4's next to my IOR and it is noticeably different. On the down side I am still trying to get my IOR set-up right on my rifle to get my eye relief correct. It seems that it needs more eye relief options. When I zoom in from 3 to 18 I get a tunnel effect. I am still working the issues out on that.

It is a big scope at 35mm but it does allow a lot of light in for low light conditions. The Leupold and the IOR weigh about the same within a couple of ounces.

I have not had to use customer service and hope that I don't but I have read on this site that is has gotten a lot better then it used to be.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: A Thank You from Valdada to the Hide

This really should be a new thread. But I will try to give a partial answer. I'll try to stick IOR since the subject of this thread is a thank you from Valdada.

This is just my opinion, but, there's a reason so many know how great Leupold's customer service is. I'm not saying IOR's are definitely more reliable. They've had their share of problems. Hopefully they have those issues taken care of. I put my money on the line to find out. FFP was a must. The modified MP-8 on the SH scope is the best reticule, for my purposes, that I've found. Clicks are positive and repeatable. With a 35mm tube there is plenty of internal adjusment. The controls are nice sized, althought I wish the side parallax knob was a little larger. The magnification range of the 3-18 suits my needs(wants?) perfectly. Good glass is the last thing on my list but this glass is good. Durability? We'll see. How is IOR's customer service? Hopefully great but I don't want to have any reason to find out.

JSTARSZ, you might want to contact Murphy Precision. I talked to them about making a base that was extended in the rear to get the scope a little further back. Here is his contact info:

thanks WyoRanchHand, I also found out from another IOR user that EGW also does too. When I get some money I am going to start the look.

Re: A Thank You from Valdada to the Hide

If someone wants to take my post and the follow ups and start a new thread.....maybe a good idea.

I have been begging for reasons to buy an IOR for 5 years. I have looked through the glass. A buddy of mine..well he became a buddy.......was student in Tactical Rifle. We were up in the mountains and I was making some point...anyway I had my LP 4-14.5 on 10 and he his 3-18 IOR on 10x and we discussed intel gathering etc.....I'm not a binocular guy...so we where going to read long range license plates...write it in our logs...and write down vehicle types and color.

In 1 minute he was done.........I had to go to 14.5 to finish because a couple plates had some mud etc. It still took me twice as long as a ROOKIE.....he had IOR glass.

However his scope seemed to have issues..mushy clicks and trouble holding zero.......but the knobs where funky in their placement.....he had to crawl up behind his bolt to get a complete view.......otherwise the eye relief didn't allow a complete pic.

I don't know if it is still their issue scope or not but the Army had alot of success with Leo on their M24's.

If I bought a $200 scope I could care less about customer service......but for this kinda cash.I know its not S&B or US Optics but believe it or not those break too.

Maybe I should go NF.....but honestly at the higher mags like 12 and above you can see better with that damn IOR.....I just want it too work and if it doesn't get a new one to replace it like now.

Thanks guys-Derek

Re: A Thank You from Valdada to the Hide

Derek,

I also have a IOR 3-18x42mm Snipers Hide Edition Gen 4. That's the latest from IOR. No issues yet. Glass is excellent, clicks are positive. I bought the scope new from a Hide member who got it as a replacement for a Gen 1 that went south. Valdada replaced it with a new scope. That seems to be there MO, replace rather than fix. OK by me.

At a IMT training class given by John Boyette (the designer of the modified MP8 reticle, BTW) out of 4 shooters 3 were using IOR 3-18 SH editions. Two Gen 4's and one Gen 2. All performed as expected. The fourth shooter was using a S&B 5-25 PMII and the IOR shooters did feel over matched or handicapped.

The Gen 4 are supposed to be better built than earlier versions, but the jury is still out on whether they hold up over the long run.

All I can say is that I'm happy with mine, and I am considering buying another one in the next few months as my 6.5 Creedmoor build gets closer to completion.

IMHO and YMMV.....

Re: A Thank You from Valdada to the Hide

Thanks Bob-good info........hey is your 6.5 credmoor going to be a bolt gun or AR? I am thinking about sweeping off my bench and building a 6.5 bolt. I have been leaning towards the 6.5x47 Lapua because of the ease of handloading but I considered the creedmore and 260 rem also. Might just end up with another 308 and keep it simple
