The problem is, if the market sees a cheap stock, they will assume the barrel is also cheap. Perhaps with a detailed explanation of what went into the barrel this perception could be overcome.

Just slap a hogue on it, many people not into long range shooting think its the shit, while people who want a different stock will thank you.
Not everyone likes the same stock style so no 1 stock will please everyone.

I saw this rifle and fell in love....please sell the 5r .308 version. If it doesen't hit the main market do you know if theres anyway to special order the rifle from remington?

The plan is to continue with a family of rifles. I don't think I should estimate time. It generally leads to complaints if the time frame is missed. If you want to shoot for the summer then I would buy this one.

I would buy a 22" .260 threaded would desire solid dbm.
Smooth thread cover would be much nicer that knurled deal just looks crappy.
Other than that the better this thing shoots the more market it will have word of mouth is going to sell more rifles than anything else will.

Is this version still coming out in the near future? Will the flutes still be included? I don't particularly care for the flutes, but even if it is included... with all the other pluses going into this rifle I can't really turn it down. Will it have the 40 X trigger and not the new X mark Pro? If you guys can deliver all of that in one package I would be a very happy camper. Been a lurker on here for some time now because I am predominately a Handgun (Springfield XDM-40)/Shotgun (Mossberg (590A1)/AR (LWRC M6A3) person, but have been doing as much research as possible and I believe this rifle would be perfect for getting me into the precision shooting world.

If you offered it in a HS Precision Stock it would be a hit with quite a few people.
People just now getting into a bolt action gun will have more than a decent stock to start off with. Look at how many jumping into the market liked the Hogue stock, and it was junk!
Anybody that wants a custom will likely take the factory stock off as soon as they get it. If they have an HS Precision take off for sale, that is $200-$225 they can recoup. They sell really well too.
As far as McMillan or Manners: Great choices but unless you are going to offer every option that those companies offer, people overall will be unhappy with the added cost of a custom stock that isn't really custom.
Look forward to seeing the end result!!

Roger that... Any news about a time frame? I know you can't give an exact time frame because that may lead to some grumbling... but at least an "Early 2011" or something would be appreciated.

$1500 at most, but I will try to make it as low as possible while still having the best barrel. I know people can change some things on a rifle to suit personal preferences more easily than others - but the barrel/chamber has to be good from the start.

Having reread this entire thread today I have to say I'm excited for what AAC/Remington/rsilvers is bringing to the table.
For years guys asked for the best entry/mid priced rifles to get started with. We told them SPS Tactical, PSS or 5R depending on budgets. However, these were all 308. For LR tactical type stuff the 308 is handicapped from the start vs the fast and high BC 260.
Now enter the proposed rifle, 260, fast twist, fair price and ready to shoot the good stuff. Maybe at under $1500 they are planning to include a DM system, I don't know, but I hope it happens. This is going to introduce a whole new possibilty in the sub $1500 tactical rifle. I'm also guessing that with this rifle that Remington will produce some Match 260 ammo, add that to the already available Black Hills and Corbon and you've got lots of good choices.

And my two cents is A great barrel, trigger, and McMillan stock. Don't care about the rest.

I would be all over the 260 like a fat kid on cake. I would want it just like my XCR LR tactical 308 though. Which you have spec'ed short of the flutes I think.
As for stock's it should at least come with the same stock as the PSS, keep the 40X trigger in them, and regular old floorplate. If you move to a McM or Manners there are time issues getting these stocks which would make this a slow grower.

I was wondering if Remington will produce higher quality .260 brass in conjunction with you guys (AAC) releasing a product that seems to be geared towards making the individual consumer happy (using our input to actually create a product).
Nosler custom brass seems to be running at almost 1.00 a piece...
Necking up .243 and necking down .308 is a little bit time consuming.

Mr. Silvers, I've worked with you in the past on a couple of small projects. All I can say is that if you go after this with the same level of research you do on everything I have seen, this will be a 100% success. This is an exciting venture for Remington, getting back to customer input is a huge +.

I like the bolt handle. The shank appears to be round and thicker than the standard bolt shank, which sometimes has breaking issues when modified.
Also, how about a better extractor?

So no 308 rifles yet - we were so focused on the 300 AAC BLACKOUT project. We do have 18 inch 308 barrels now in 1:8 twist - good for supersonic and subsonic ammo.
If you want, call and order part number 101274. $400. Even if they say it is not in stock, order it. That will generate a work order to install the thread protector, which is all they need to ship.
These are 5/8-24 threaded and nitrided black, with thread protector. Because of the nitride, you cannot head space them by reaming. So you check the headspace, and grind the recoil lug to reduce headspace if necessary. An incremental gauge set helps.
I will post photos as soon as I can. It is mostly like an M24 profile but the final 2 inches of it is cylindrical to accept an over-the-barrel silencer if desired.

Im IN!!! you just sold another .260. Although this is most likely too late... I have to tell you my thoughts on the stock. Lots of fans of premium stocks here and theres ALOT of them.. PLEASE dont pick a stock that will delay shipment because of a 3 month lead time!! I like B&C, this guy likes Manners, that guy likes McM.
Put a Houge on there to sell to the general population.. and keep the price down so <span style="text-decoration: underline">this</span> community can ditch it and put on their own choice of stock. If someone wants a McM, let HIM wait 36 weeks for it to come in.. You can send ME the .260 and I'll put on a stock I alreay have picked out and be shooting the same day.

IMHO I think the 260 would be great. Offering the public an out of the box rifle like what has been discussed. Then increasing the 260 to include some match loads. Would just be awesome.

Due to the 300 BLACKOUT project taking our focus, we will be selling just barrels for bolt guns. We have:
1. 18 inch 1:8 twist 308, nitrided, threaded.
2. 24 inch 1:8 twist 260, nitrided, threaded.
3. 16 inch 1:8 twist 300 BLACKOUT, nitrided, threaded, light.
4. 16 inch 1:8 twist 300 BLACKOUT, nitrided, threaded, heavy.
