Accuracy International AT-X

I have finally put together a AT-X after shooting an AXSA since 2019, and an AT prior to that.

Sage green 700aics chassis just shipped! Sweet! Anyone find themselves wanting a lower cheek piece? I know I do!
I see anarchy outdoors makes a cheek piece for AX buttstocks that lowers the cheek near 3/8". However this part doesn't cross over to ATX. Anyone interested should start sending request for one, letting Anarchy know that there may be demand. I've fixed my ai atx up with the high action rail and 1.5" mount, works well with cheek as low as possible and offset a lil right. However the 700aics atx suffers, mounts higher than 1.5" that are non-cantilever have very few options. I see spuhr makes a 2" high mount but I don't think I need that much, nor want my scope that high from bore. My 700 clone actions dont have available higher pic rails either.

Whats the deal with balancing these rifle/adding weights?
I see a huge variety in setups ups with different scopes, cans, and external weights with not obvious trend. Some of the setups look like they’d be very muzzle heavy compared to others.

It doesn’t seem like there is anyway to add weight to the butt, so are these quite rear heavy as standard?
Or are there some weights guys are adding to the forend and butt that I am not seeing?

I think you want it balanced a few inches in front of the mag well

You’re forgetting the scopes. The scopes add a rear biased 2-3lbs. Weights on the front allow a shooter to move the CG forward of magwell to their preference.

@jwood1284 If you look at these two rifles they both have cans and 4lbs worth of keyslot weights, which would imply that they are very arse hevy even with heavy scopes on them.

As compared to these two rifles which have very little weight added forward.
You would expect the ones with cans and all the weights added to be very muzzle heavy with no rear weights added.

“Balance” is relative.

The blue one posted above is mine… I prefer it to be front heavy as it helps me control recoil better. Now that doesn’t mean that’s what works for everyone, but that’s what I like.

Realistically a long/heavy barrel and suppressor alone will offset the weight from the rear. No weights/bipod factored in. The first 2 weights in front of the magwell don’t really do much to change the balance point either.

It’s the weights more towards the fore end/bipod that kinda shift balance forward… but I wouldn’t call the gun “extremely” ass heavy in any configuration.

Just got a new TS Customs 6 dasher barrel for my atx. How do you guys keep the barrels from getting dinged up and scratched when swapping.

I had the factory 6.5cm barrel cut down to 18” for hunting. And its pretty scratched up. I know its a barrel and doesnt really matter but I wanna keep it nice for awhile anyways.

I’d go with what @Huskydriver says, or Run stainless and you won’t notice any scratches…

But thanks for reminding me why I’ve kept this pic in my phone over the years

I agree with all the barrel scratch memes above...

But if you care, maybe change the barrel like I think the AI manual says. Sitting with the rifle between your knees so you can drop the barrel straight in the action. That might minimize scratches but I've never tried, I install barrels with the rifle on a bench or tripod and scratch it up.

What action bolts are needed for the AT-X AICS, and are there feeding issues for a stock R700 BDL action in 308?
The ones in the chassis. They're trapped, cant lose em! As long as your 700 action is aics cut, you're good. I haven't tried my aw cut fuzion in it yet to see if it'll handle aw mags.

I always wondered if a Tubb two stage trigger would be really similar to an AI trigger. Visually it looks very similar and some AI shooters that I know seem to like them on other guns.
It is

It has that extra slack after trigger pull similar to stock AI trigger. I have one in my Vudoo tuned very close to my AX

That is what I have in mine. Feel free to swing by and try them.

But they are physically larger and require a little milling machine intervention to fit in most chassis.
