Accuracy International Picture Thread

Variety is the spice of live. Different eyes, different scopes. Else competition between companies wouldn't exist.

I have a lot of confidence in Chris Roberts with CR2 Solution who does technical advising for Leupold. As a man who spent many years as an Army Sniper then Army Sniper Instructor, I'd like to think that Leupold is getting all the right messages from what the community wants. It is for this reason that the Army still uses Leupolds today for their B4s. This said, my understanding is that the Nightforce ATACR can take more abuse. What that looks like, is beyond my knowledge... I haven't beat up any scopes recently. But no one wants to assault a scope like @Huskydriver seems to 😉

The Mark 8 3.5-25x H58/59/T3 is when I saw Leupold mature. The MK5HD is just a revised Mark 8 with more refined materials. But yes: the eyebox is smaller than others, something that I hope they revise in future models.

None of this says anything against Nightforce or any other brands out there. But the Leupold MK5HD is the first scope I actually fell in love with all around, and their military discount makes them worth it. Retail vs retail? No, I'd rather get a low end S&B for the same price, or a Nightforce. So all said... I still don't understand the disgust or hate towards it. They've been great scopes and a great company to work with with amazing support when needed. And they really take care of the military/veteran community, let alone the B4 community.
IMO Leupolds just don't look right on AI's. Having said that, my AW was originally meant to have a MK4 10x on it when it was RFQ by the FBI. I still have 3 other Leupolds on other rifles, but they are very specific to those builds. But generally when we see a AI in the wild, it's usually with a NF or a S&B or those crazy Germans running Steiner's on theirs. I really have tried to like the MK5 scopes, but for a little more money, you can really have a lot better scope. I was close to buying another for my MK12 Mod1, but looked through them again and I remember why I sold mine.

I wouldn't be surprised if they still did runs of the AT now and then, I've been told they will continue supporting the AT/AW with spares for the foreseeable future.

They could easily do small runs of full rifles for Mil/LEO customers, but I doubt the civilian market will see very many if any.

Sporting services had a run of AWMs a while back (338lm and 300wm) so AI obviously can/will do limited runs.

I want an AWSM with a quick - detach barrel and the ability to accept longer .338 LM rounds.

And, oh - a thumbhole folding stock.

... This isn't news to anyone right? Accuracy International put out a press release mid January 2024 when they announced the AT-XC that the AT308 and AX308 would be discontinued. Their main rifles are now the AT-XC, AXSR Multi-Caliber (based on the ASR and it's military contract competition) and AX ELR. It has also been confirmed that the AW, AT and AXSA will continue to receive support with parts and service as all are still being used across the globe with various units. But, they will no longer be sold directly. Rumors of the AT308 still being sold to LE exist, but is uncomfirmed. So while I'm 99% sure I'm sharing information already known, here's all the briefs and details for the 1% that maybe haven't "checked out the latest" in the last year, or longer... But yes: the AT-X MIL, as they are saying it, replaces both the AT308 and AX308 in their catalog lineup.

@tomirwin did I miss any details?

If you can find me a reticle that is as easy for my broke-ass eyes to see as the .1 MRAD thick Illuminated TMR I am open to other options.

P.S. As a motivated dabbler at most, the Leupold MK5 will never be the thing holding me back.
I was waiting for that sentence to end with pr2 mil but it ended up with disappointment.

I like mk5s except the insufferable windage turrets

If it Arken, it ain’t right.

As for optics… every fucking scope over 2k needs these damn tool-less TT turrets. They’re so damn nice. Makes me almost forget I ever had an ATACR… 😂

Then again, make an Arken with TT turrets and it’s game over! Arken would dominate the market!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Side Question:

Is it wrong to buy an AT-X with a 5-25 TT as a first bolt rifle for my 9yr old? Or does it need to be an Areo with an Arken?
Depends on how big of a boy you are bubba

Getting a taste of Grey Poupon, Lobster Tail and Filet Mignon right out the womb?

Wrong... no... but he'll never have money after he realizes everything else sucks immediately

I need a flat trigger shoe… any preference or are there really any differences between them, other than the bump on the bottom of some?

Having owned both, this one made by @pfl338 is better than the AI factory one IMO due to the slight hook at the bottom and the texture.

I’ve been saying for years that I’d have happily purchased an “ATMC”, however, AI had no interest in producing it so I wound up getting a TRG-42 instead. I’d still consider selling the TRG for an “ATMC”, however, I’m sure the price would be insanely high compared to what the AT went for and what the AXSR now goes for.

AI went towards the prs crowd. Which in my opinion, being a big AI fan, was a poor choice. There’s to many custom actions, triggers, caliber etc for their design to truly shine.

If I was running prs I’d build a rifle tailored to the sport.

I love my AI’s but it’s not going to be my first choice for a comp gun

AI is like the Barrett. It’s a military grade sniper rifle. There’s nobody running Barrett’s in prs. Or at least you don’t see it. Because they don’t belong there

Yes , BUT . . . .

Is PRS crowd is ahead of the .mil guys on tools and gear? I haven't been in either game, but from what it looks like PRS is trickling out to .mil guns i.e. arca rails, tripods and positional shooting.

So by AI playing in that field it's kinda giving them a head start on the next contract solicitation? Like boarder patrol and the AT-XC.

I’m probably wrong, but it looked like the ATX was in the hands of military personnel before the ATX was introduced to the citizen shooter, or is that time line backwards?

Looking at the AX, AT, and AT-X side by side, there is really nothing the AT/AX do that the AT-X doesn't do better.
As much as I love the look of a AW/thumbhole AT, the AT-X is just better.

However, I don't see any reason why AI couldn't take the AT and make a best of both world rifle.
Slim down the height of the forend, remove the tapered section in in front of the magwell, and build in a barricade stop (basically like a KRG forend on a TRG 22). Maybe make the forend a little longer too.

But would this really be better than an AT-X? Look cooler for sure, but not sure if better.
