That is awesome! what kind of velocities are you seeing in 16.5 6.5CM? I’m a huge fan of short barrels
Well i use power pro 2000mr powder so with the 123 eldm bullet , hornady brass and cci br2 i am at 2885-2900 fps at high node but brass only lasts 3 firings, primer pockets loosen . Low node im at 2800 fps. I recently switched to Prime once fired brass i have been buying here, but ive lowered the powder charge much more as i get sticky bolt lift using my old load. I think im 2 grains less of powder now seeing 2680s .Im Running out of the 123 grain bullets i will now try the 140 eldm. The accuracy is great with the shorty 6.5s its just velocity thats being sacrificed. Ive always shot shorty 308s and these 6.5s are certainly much better .I run suppressed only and shoot steel so its not a big deal to me to cut back on speed.

Nice we would get along well. I love the shorty barrels and shoot only suppressed. Try the Berger 130s for a combo of speed and accuracy. High 2800s or low 2900s is impressive for that short of a barrel

How much powder do you use?
I get my CTR 20" 260rem barrel 123gr Lapua Scenar out of the barrel 2690fps with VV N150 38,6gr.
My friend has TAC A1 260rem 24" barrel, and that spit same bullet with same load out the barrel of 2779 fps.
It is quite a max load on VV powder with that bullet, case end has some plunger marking, when powder is increased.
That 2900fps is incredible fast of that short barrel

Shooting at the Whittington Center's silhouette range. With a 6.5 CM Proof carbon barrel chambered by Mile High and NF ATACR 7-35x56 Mil-C, head shots on the turkeys were a cinch, and the heart plate on the buffalo felt like a chip shot.

I've also shot this combo out to 1800 with ease.

For the AI connoisseurs: Can anyone spot the uniqueness of this gun?

I use 44.8 of h4350 with the 123s and 44 of 2000mr in hornady brass , Prime brass wont handle all that powder i think internal volume is alot less in Prime brass.

@81sfo do you mind detailing what it took to swap the rear end to post 14? And it folds to the bolt side now?

@viking78 im not a reloading pro by any means but that seems fairly slow for the 123 out of a 20 inch pipe. Lowlight did 2650 out of his 18 inch creed with factory hornady 140 grain.

First a donor Ax Aics chassis was purchased , then the rear was removed by removing the screws first then the bonding epoxy with a Heat gun . The same process was done to the Buttstock on the rifle , cleaned and devcon epoxy was applied before installation of the post 2014 rear onto the 2012 ax rifle.

I did it with Vihtavuori powder and i tryed it with the max load on the VV manual.
Also that is the best group size i got, i could use more powder, but i don think it would do that good group in the paper.
If you loose accuracy, it dont do shit on the long range with that cartridge.
Lowlight has some better barrel than Tikka factory barrel, im thinking to change my factory barrel next year, something American made maybe, and SS also on my mind.

Bartlein barrels are very good, that´s one of the choices i have been looking.
Is the left hand twist better than right hand?
Nearly all factory barrels are rh twist, mass production though is the reason in normal factory guns.
Custom rifles are different thing then.
I’m not going to say that I know the benefits of the barrel that Lowlight has. He did cover it in some detail in one of the Everyday Sniper episodes. He did comment he had no issues with the factory Tikka barrel.

We took the rifle out to Pawnee and gave it a 30-round break-in last weekend. I'd bore sighted it at 50 yards, so we started by getting a 200 yard zero, which took 2 shots. I then shot a 3-round group, which, IIRC, was around .6 or .7 MOA. Then my son shot a 5 shot group that had around an MOA of vertical stringing. We then moved out to 1000 yards and shot 5 round groups. My son had a very well-centered group that was spot-on at 1.0 MOA. For a brand new barrel and factory ammo, I'm pretty happy with that. Now I need to get off my butt and start working up a handload for it.

I really like the feel of the rifle when in the prone. Super stable and confidence inspiring.

I dunno if you can tease us about a problem. Didn’t you have an MPA you didn’t use?

If trying one new build and not liking it is the same as buying/selling/trading 5 different AI's (even the same one more than once) only to end up with the same model you just traded away...well yeah then I guess I have a problem too!

We're all addicts, it's just a matter of how you get your fix :)

Fortunately/unfortunately I thought I could manage two different rifles in my stable, but I'm too attached to the AI platform (and for good reason). Not even the allure of an MPA chassis could draw me away.

The REAL next rifle will likely be a LH Vudoo to practice at 100yds and not have to load (and shoot) expensive centerfire ammo. Only problem is AI still hasn't released the new AX-AICS chassis in LH...

AT AT, 2 months into the wait for my MPA chassis to drop it in, have a Proof Carbon 6.5CM 24" barrel coming and just fitted a Spuhr 4603B rail... Always evolving.

Currently:
26" 260Rem - 139gr Lapua Scenar & 20" 308WIN - 175gr SMK
ATACR - Tremor3
SamB spigot rail replacement
OTM low rail
Accuracy 1st level
AI Adjustable shoulder plate

Anyone running an AT with the newer low profile rail, and a Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56 with NF 34mm Ultralite rings?

Which ring height did you use?

This might not be completely helpful however I have an AT with the OTM LOW 20 MOA RAIL, and have until just recently been using Leupold MK4 'HIGH' steel rings 1.1" approx tall with a NF BEAST that is the same OD as your ATACR. See the picture a few posts up, that's how it sat.
