Hello all!

I’m in the process of finalizing my AI AXMC .338 Lapua project.
Was going to use the Storm case, have had great experience with those on my other rifles.
The vendor made an interesting suggestion today that I consider a Accuracy International 6980-BL AI Transit case,
with precut foam, rather than the Storm 3300 case.

Anyone have experience with this AI case, feedback on the durability, esp with travel?
Should mention that the AXMC that I chose is the 27” barrel.
Price is about double the Storm case, but given the rifle and optic value, that’s kind of a moot point.

Thanks much!

AI case prices are ridiculous. They can charge whatever they want and that's fine but buy the case you want and cut the foam yourself. I got an SKB AXMC case (50146) in a package deal and it's flimsier than Pelican/Storm. Basically all you're getting is a highly marked up case and expensive (but nice) foam. Was also interested in the AX transit case (26463-$500+) but after figuring out which Explorer case it was I picked one up off Amazon with basic foam for $99.

Thank you Waorani, appreciate ur feedback.
I've never had much luck with the "plucked foam" inserts for my other rifles and gear, where as the more rigid cut foam makes sense.
Best of both worlds for me would be a case I know, the Storm with the cut foam for the weapon.
Anyone else have anything?

I got one of the custom cut Storm 3200's from Euro Optic for my AXMC.

Link here

It's very well played out, uses high quality foam, and the cuts are perfect. All I had to do was trim a little for my RRS plate but it was only a touch and the type of foam used cuts really clean with a razor blade without looking like shit like standard Storm/Pelican foam does.

I've had the AI cases in the past and they're very nice but the biggest thing for me for the Euro Optic case is it utilizes the folding hinge so you end up with a smaller case. I don't need the extra room with all the extra pockets for crap that just stays in my pack anyway. Not to mention it just makes a heavy case even heavier the more stuff you cram in it.

I suggest buying the Euro Optic case and use the $250 you'll save on more ammo.

Personally, I wouldn't have bought a hard case except it was part of the package deal I got. Already have several I don't use and this one will likely be the same. I'm not shoving it out of a helicopter or throwing it in the back of a vehicle bouncing off-road. They're big/heavy and overkill for my actual needs.

I have an AI case and it is amazing. I personally think it is worth the cash. You can save funds getting the less expensive cases where they cut the foam or you cut the foam but having it come and it's already set up solid is priceless to me. If your paying this much for a rifle why not pay for a good case for it.

I got a big pelican style boyds because it was what all the cool kids were doing. I leave it under the bed whenever possible now just because its a bitch to lug around. Its neat that I cut it out for perfect fits and all that but Ill either just throw the rifle in the truck on its own or use a smaller light weight thirty dollar case if I have to take it somewhere requiring a case. I dont need 50lbs of protection for a helo jump.

Not to mention that you cant change anything up too much or youll make the foam cuts useless.

Im using a storm between all my AI's

No complaints other then its heavy and a pain to drag around. Make sure you get the shorter case that's designed for the stock to be folded. I regret purchasing the longer version

Thanks folks, ended up with the Storm 3300 and precut foam for the AI AXMC.
Needed something for transport via air or rough conditions.

For most of my other rifles I utilize the Eberlestock Phantom or Operator pack if I'm the range.

For the money, I can't complain whatsoever about my 3300. Great case I would change nothing about.
