Accuracy problems after B&C Medalist inatall: suggestions?

I have a Rem. 700 5R and just replaced the HS precision stock with a Bell and Carlson Medalist varmint tactical. My barrel is bigger around than the "standard heavy barrel" thatthe stock is designed for, so I had to sand it out to fully float it. Did some minor inletting to allow factory bottom metal to align properly. Torqued bolts to 60 in. Lbs. Prior to the stock swap, it would shoot 3 shot groups as one ragged hole all day long. Now im getting 2"-3" groups consistently even at 100yds. So I checked bolts, base, and ring torque settings and ended up with the same results. Am I missing something simple here that's not coming to mind? Any suggestions or thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks

So you just did a stock swap and now having problems. Hummm, did you check to see if action is sitting flush in stock? Recoil lug bottoming out in stock inducing stress? Did you torque your last stock at 60 in lbs.? Something change the harmonics from your HS stock.

Put it back in the old stock -post-up some 5-round groups.

Had a BC stock that didn't sit right in the aluminum bedding block, I used some old carbon paper and torqued it down.... Turns out it was only touching the bedding block on the left side of the receiver..... I skim bedded the action and the accuracy problem went away!

You just down graded... Stick it back in the HS and send that turd back to B&C.

Had a similar problem as beepy, put a savage 12 into a medalist, and the block wasnt straight in the stock, so at the end of the barrel channel, the barrel was barely touching on one side. Put some very thin spacers back beneath the action to align the barreled action, then bedded it over the top of the spacer. Perfectly aligned and shoots like a dream now.

Yup, just a stock swap. Well I wasn't sure how to see my contact points without shooting it, then seeing where the rub markswere. So i did that, and the action contact is just a strip on each side of the block. Which is better than the contact it had in the old HS stock. How can I check the recoil lug? I just remembered I did both stocks at 65 in front and 60 in rear.

Just use a caliper and measure the bottom part of action to to base of recoil lug. Make note on measurement. Now measure the stock action saddle to bottom of recoil lug space. Its just another thing to check to verify no stress. Hope you figure it out.

Make sure the bolt handle doesnt touch the stock when closed,i have read that is an accuracy killer too.

I had to dremel out a bit of the cutout for the bolt handle to get it to close all the way. It wasn't making any contact, but looking at it now after shooting it, there is a slight rub mark. I will clear some more room and see what happens, thanks for the tip.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot as well. I actually just got a good caliper so we'll see. I'm also going to skim bed it.
