I am just trying to figure out what the differences are in a 710 and a 700 action. Ive thought about picking up a 710 for a donor action for a rifle build. Would there be any reasons not to?
Nearly certain that the 710 has a pressed in barrel, IE no threads. So it is a very poor action for a custom build. If you want something cheaper than a 700, go with a Savage for your build, they make a great action.
Like stated before, the 710 had a pressed in barrel. The receiver was simply a hollow round tube, with a nylon insert in the receiver that formed the races for the bolt to ride on. It was a cheap design for a cheap rifle to get more people into shooting. Also, the bolt was a three lug design as opposed to the 700's two lugs.
