i want to put together a custom rifle in .223 and cannot find any remington 700 actions for sale! another option seems to be to go with the savage but does not seem as widely used as the rem. any suggestions?

Re: ACTION OPTIONS??

thanks guys
longrange- i came across that website before and the .223 was on backorder then as well.
FM- i know that both actions are on par with one another i am just a fan of remington. alot of custom actions are built using the rem specs and alot of military rifles for many many years now have been rems. battle proven.

Re: ACTION OPTIONS??

If your going with an aftermarket pre-fit barrel I'd order that quick. Everyone that I've talked to are all at least 10 weeks or better on getting you a barrel. I was told on my 7mag bbl that I had another 4 weeks as of yesterday on top of the 13 weeks I've already been waiting. This is my 2nd savage build and it will also be my last, just for the fact of having pre-fit barrels taking longer than what some smiths will turn out a complete rifle. 1st build my bbl took 11 weeks and this one will end up being at least 17 weeks.

Re: ACTION OPTIONS??

diver9,

When I need just a Rem 700 action, I just look for one of these:

Rem 700 VS

They can usually be found for under $700. sometimes less. If they have the old black spider web stock, like the one above, they will have to old style Rem Trigger.

You can then:

Part out the stock for $225., the trigger for $75., the bottom metal for another $60., bringing the whole cost down under $400. for the action

Re: ACTION OPTIONS??

It depends alot on the particular build you want to do.

If you are going to install a DBM, then just go to wally world or a big box sporting goods store and buy a 700 ADL with the proper bolt face. Usually about 370 bucks.
