Movie Theater Actors you would like to see, in movies that you would like to watch...

I suppose it was time for a topic like this to be made, so here it is.

Create a movie, and put your favorite actor, or actress, in it.

As an example...

War movie, fictional, Africa, Present time, Denzel Washington as some type of U.S. SOF, with one other supporting team mate played by Leonardo DiCaprio, entering an African country currently in a civil war to find any information about a terror cell, that might have smuggled a citizen of a NATO ally into the area.

Spy movie, fictional, Europe/Germany/East Berlin, post-WW2 era/pre-Cold War, Ralph Fiennes and Sam O'Neill star as British Intelligence agents tasked with setting up a station, as quickly and quietly as possible to gather as much information on Soviet forces as possible, in the vacuum of the fall of Nazi Germany, and having to contend with NKVD(the precursor to the KGB) agents who are on the lookout for them. Also starring Peter Stormare, as the head of NKVD forces in East Berlin.

Crime movie, fictional, Japan, Present time, Ken Watanabe and Chow Yun-Fat play detectives for the Tokyo police charged with investigating some, seemingly random, but successful hacking attempts of major banks, and tech industries that turn out to be larger, and more dangerous then imaginable.

Granted you can go into more detail then my examples, I'm just trying to get the ball rolling on this topic.

I'd like to see a retelling of the pursuit of the Bismarck, from the breakout to her sinking, preferably done from the German perspective by someone like Wolfgang Peterson (Das Boot), with no Hollywood BS, sticking strictly to the facts. Greatest maritime war story ever, and deserves a better, more modern take that the old "Sink the Bismarck" movie (which was great, in its time) that the Brits did in the late '50s, very early 60s.

Admiral Yamamoto, or the IJN Yamato? The INN Yamato might be interesting, but it wasn't anywhere near the epic sea chase and battle that the Bismarck was. More like a brief, exciting demo of US Naval airpower. Yeah, I could go for that.

As for Admiral Yamamoto, there IS an excellent film done within the last year or two on him, from before the war to his being targeted and eliminated by our P-38s. I saw it on a flight back from Germany last year, and have been trying to locate it ever since. Apparently not released in the US market, as I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Great movie, though.

There's another that I saw on that same flight, "Vier Tag im Mai" ("Four days in May"), that was about a reportedly true incident that happened in the last days of he war, and the days immediately following. A Russian recon unit had occupied an orphanage, and was supposed to cut off retreating German elements. A band of SS and Wehrmact that was far too strong for the Russians came through, and was awaiting boats to get them across a portion of the Baltic, creating something of a standoff. With the end of the war, another much larger Russian unit arrived, predominately drunk off their asses. The commander wanted (tried) to rape one of the girls at the orphanage, and was stopped by the recon element leader. The commander retreated to his unit and said he'd be back to arrest the leader, have him executed, and then do what he wanted with the girls. The recon leader contacted the German stragglers and explained the situation. The result was a final battle, with the Germans AND the Russian recon unit, fighting against the Russian combat unit to protect the girls of the orphanage. Supposedly a true story, but I also haven't been able to find that one anywhere here in the US. Great movie, very well done and very well acted, with all the equipment and vehicles being spot-on correct.

Peter Jackson and his protoge Christian Rivers have been hoping to do a remake of "Dambusters!" for some time now. I've been holding out for that, moreso than the new "Avatar" films.

The Ship. Though a movie about the man would be interesting to see.

Fantasy movie . . . The Elfstones of Shannara based on the novel by Terry Brooks. Part horror, part traditional sword and sorcery thing, part bloody last stand narrative. A pretty good read for any fantasy fans and a really good read for those that enjoy well-rendered battle scenes based upon old/medieval tactics.

Would like to see a full blown LOTR treatment in terms of effects and location, but with a more daring director . . . or set of them. Looking at the Cohen Brothers; maybe someone even a little more crazy like Nicolas Winding Refn (but with more dialogue). Casting: Mia Wasikowska as heroine; hmm. Russell Crowe, Matthew Goode, and assortment of really scary people to dress up as demons.

I'd like to see a good old style Mafia movie again staring Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and some of the cast from The Sopranos. Obviously James Gandolfini won't be making an appearance. These guys are getting old! I want to see them in at least one more Mafia movie before it's too late.

Yep, that's the one. Great movie, but I don't know that its ever been released or aired here in the US. Very well done, every bit on par with Hollywood's best efforts, and an interesting story. Covered a lot of the internecine warfare that went on between the Imperial Army and Navy in the late 1930s, and the sort of political minefields that Yamamoto had to navigate.

As far as 4 Tage im Mai, yes, I have lots of friends in Germany, and often spend a couple weeks over there every year. The problem is the formatting; they use the PAL format, which doesn't play on our DVD players. There may be some way to convert these to a format that can be played on US machines, but I'm not up to speed on that. I have enough trouble just operating the damned remote with 148 different buttons (yep, counted them once) and playing regular US DVDs!

I have a premise for a movie that I'm imagining, but I need some help on it. I can't think of an actor in this case, just really the setting.

The movie is a western of sorts, and it might be long because it is about a U.S. Marshall's journey of tracking, and capturing a criminal, all over varied terrain and climate. I'm set on Alaska being the coldest climate, and the desert setting I'm uncertain about. Off the top of my head I would say Death Valley as being my first choice, but I wonder if the journey would be better told in terms of length if it was in New Mexico, or Texas.

I can't even think of any actors for this right now. Time period is post Civil War, but I suppose it could be pre-Civil War too, but there would need to be some changes to parts of the story.

Any ideas?

I would like to see a movie or series based on the defunct Dresden Files Syfy TV series, including Paul Blackthorn and the rest of original regular cast.

The series was pretty well done for Syfy, treated the literature with serious respect, and held my attention well during its run. IMHO, a major reason for its end was a lack of continuing literature upon which to base additional episodes. In the intervening years that original literature has been well supplemented, and I believe could form the basis for a more in-depth treatment, even perhaps a franchise.

At very least the small(-er?) screen could serve.

Inglourious Basterds whet my appetite for more WWII commando action. There's a bunch of old good ones (Dirty Dozen, Kelly's Heroes, Where Eagles Dare), but I would love to see a take on the British Long Range Desert Group (LRDG, precursor to the SAS).

Get Michael Fassbender to play an officer-type, and then get all the British/Australian Alpha-male actors to play various roles: Hugh Jackman would be a good officer; Jason Statham in a minor role, just because I think he's a decent actor when he has good direction (see The Bank Job); Tom Hardy somewhere; Russell Crowe as a COL or GEN or something like that; Michael Caine and Anthony Hopkins with cameos as GENs, pinning medals on em at the end of the movie; maybe Eric Bana somewhere, just because he was awesome in BHD; maybe we even get Daniel Craig somewhere; add Simon Pegg for comedic relief . Get a director who can handle a big desert epic.

Now that movie would be awesome.

Not suggesting a remake, since the first one was damned good . . . okay, great. "The Final Option," which unfortunately is not available in the US market on DVD, is loosely based on the SAS takedown of Princess' Gate, the Iranian Embassy takeover in London in the late '70s. If you want to see an insider's view of a Special Ops mission from start to finish, this one's truly great.

Not quite Spec Ops, but still a great story about intel and counterintel work, try "The Fourth Protocol." Michael Caine at his best, Pierce Brosnan as a KGB agent in the UK, outstanding film based on a Fredrick Forsythe (I believe?) novel. Great film, one of my all time favorites.

How about the story of the 300 Spartans told more in the style of Gladiator and based on the historical novel Gates of Fire by the great Stephen Pressfield. For King Leonidas maybe Eric Bana? (think Hoot from Blackhawk Down, or MAYBE Hugh Jackman.)

This of course instead of the monsters, freaks and flying greeks version called 300 that we have to live with now.

I have always wanted some of the stories in the Silmarillion done well on screen.

But isn't what everyone really wants to see is a full-on XXX movie with Jessica Alba and Natalie Portman going ass-to-ass?

I agree. A movie of gates of fire would be fantastic. I just can't think of an actor that could pull off Leonidas. Now, for Dienikes, I'm thinking. . . IDK about him, either.
