So I grabbed the digital version of this not seeing it in the movies, and I have to say, personally for me, wow ?
I really liked AD ASTRA and think they did a lot of smart things. It combined so many big movies ina really cool way to advance the story. Yes I get the criticism and it can be considered slow, but it’s navigating a really well thought out landscape.
I won’t spoil it and talk aboUt the elements of other movies I saw, beyond the most obvious, 2001. Take out the crappy 2001 opening and focus on the space travel and journey there, ad astra plays very close in a much better way. The parallels to 2001 are easy, but with a more realistic twist thanks to additional time we have a clearer look into modern space travel. But it played practical to me and quite well filmed.
It’s long, it’s slow, even a bit quiet, but it’s nicely shot and there is a story, you need 1/2 a hobbit trilogy to get there. Kidding, it’s not that long. 1/3 the hobbits.
