Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

"Basically",and "entitlements" are the first to come to mind.

I also hate hearing obscenities and profanity in a public place, especially in mixed company.

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

Any scandal being described by a word with "gate" appended to it.

Watergate was just the name of a hotel. What magic is there in the third syllable of that word that makes the media attach it to everything?

Let's start with drug testing welfare recipients and see how many disqualify themselves.</div></div>
They will just have someone else pee for them, or the testers will take money to put in "the fix". </div></div>

The drug testing will be done by Acorn. LOL

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

"that said" I read a SWAT magazine once that had that phrase in every article...
"SWAT"
"Green"
"Eco" anything"
"for sell"
and the number one irritant of the moment... "sustainable"

The reason I started the thread was the wife and me talking about expressions that we hate and we could not recall the "take it to the next level" one. That is more of the corporate B.S. talk I hate.

That's a good one. Kinda shows what the media is all about.

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

I also can't stand the phrase "reverse racism." It's just racism. Any time someone is singled out because of their race or color and discriminated against in any way, it's racist. Reverse racism is a racist term, because it's saying that racism is limited to white people, and anything discriminatory toward white people reverses it. No it f*cking doesn't. It's racism, plain and simple.

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

"Get-er done" - Thank you Larry the Cable Guy
"Watch-er"
"Yote(s)"
"Calm down" - usually just pisses me off a lot more
All the internet abreviation shit I don't understand; IALTO, IIRC, etc etc....
"Schnees" - slang for snow geese I guess
"If it flies, it dies"
"Prostaff" - really, you're a self proclaimed proffesional? No, you're a product pimp.

That's just to name a few.....

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

for me, as a former spelling champion, the use of words that have different spellings is a major irritant to me, e.g.,

their, referring to people, not there

there, meaning a place, not their

"extracter"- extractor

more to come !!

I found this phrase is akin to throwing gas on a fire. In some cases it's a great tool, in other avoid at all costs.

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

"Whatever."
When you're trying to talk to some one and they try to blow it off with, "Whatever." It drives me crazy. Only 10 year old girls say that.

Someone earlier in the thread said they dislike "ebonics." I don't dislike the word ebonics but the actual sound of ebonics drives me crazy. Speak English, please.

And this.

Also, lack of punctuation and capitalization, and the inability to spell common words from someone with at least most of a high school education just disappoints me.</div></div>

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

When some one calls me Sir.
Instant case of the ASS.
Say anything to me but do not call me Sir.
A hate for the corps of officers, I would guess and not wanting to be anything like them.
Unfortunate, as LEOs and others use the term lightly and say that to anyone trying to be respectful.
Not good for me, I would rather be called Mr. or Bub or Asshole, anything other than Sir.
Regards, FM

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

"Hot water heater" - If it was already hot, you wouldn't need to heat it.

"Could care less" - Misused for "couldn't care less".

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

"Rules of Engagement"

The new Corporate Buzzword outlining how the team will compete or what the outline of the business strategy... BULLSHIT...

Rules of Engagement? No rules in war. You kill the enemy... quick, clean and with no chance of retribution.

You do the same in competitive business... yet.. since we have "Rules of Engagement" we have prolonged our wars... and we spin our wheels in corporate empty suits..

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

"Its all good"......not it is not, no one likes herpes

"I own that shit"

anytime anyone ends a sentence with Son, and is not referring to their child. Ex, "I own that shit Son"

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

"Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast."

No. Slow is simply slow. People who say that should be slapped - at high speed.

From decades of martial arts training, I know very well that speed and power must follow the achievement of correct form - but slow is just slow.

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

Any of the stupid nicknames people call their rifles, like Remmie, Winnie, Bushy, etc.

If you're going to call your rifle something, give it a real name like Private Pyle's Charlene in Full Metal Jacket.

Re: Add to words and phrases that makes you mad.

Remmy, shotty, Mossy, Leupy, etc. You don't sound cool, you sound like a dumbass. If you can't spell the damn word, copy & paste it. You're on a damn computer!!! I work in a jail and I hear "my bad" & "see, what had happened was" several times a week. I want to choke the shit out of people when I hear that.
