My range is closed for some renovation so I decided to try to load up some rounds and shoot in my backyard and use my chrono to find the flat spot. I figured what the hell let’s see I can find the sweet spot on the quick and easy. Usually I do an OCW but range time ain’t happening till Sunday or Monday and I’m bored. My rifle is a 16” Larue tobr. Using Varget I loaded up 3 rounds each at .2 grain charges and took the average of each group. Here’s what I got -
42.4 - 2436 fps
42.6 - 2470
42.8 - 2471
43.0 - 2479
43.2 - 2496
43.4 - 2486
43.6 - 2501
43.8 - 2529
44.0 - 2523
So on looking at this I’d say my area is between 42.6 and 43.0 and probably 42.8 is the load but again I haven’t done it this way so not seeing groups is throwing me off. Or could it be be 42.7 but I’d say that’s a small node. I figured I’d post this to see what others offer up. Oh and the chrono I used is a magnetospeed.
