I have seen brand new TRG 22's for $2200 bucks that can be had by anybody. thats a pretty dang good buy for what you get.

I've heard claims like this, but would love to know how those businesses are selling a new-in-box rifle well below dealer cost...

Business sell items below cost all the time. Some business models use "lost leaders" to get customers in. Its really business 101. Nothing new.

Loss leaders are a quick way to generate a lot of sales, and often the customers are so excited to have gotten a good deal they spend excessive amounts on accessories and other items, often becoming longer term customers of the vendor.

It's a pretty foundational business tactic that's been known to work when employed correctly.

However, in the case of a rifle and at such a lower cost it seems suspect to me that you'd make up the difference so easily. I'd like a link to these 2200$ TRG's. That could almost sway me to stop saving for the AIAEmkII I've been dreaming of.

Of course, I want the folder so I can carry it on a backpack so I can ride a motorcycle to the range. I'd look kinda suspect with a big ole TRG hanging out of my backpack

Re: AE MKII or DTA SRS or TRG-22

i think we are all losing site of the main issue which is what fits the op the best and only he can tell that by trying them out. hopefully there are some guys that are relatively close can let him try it out.

honestly if you can afford a trg, ai ae, or dta then the accesories are not that big of a deal. they are all great rifles for different people. if you look hard enough and are patient enough you can get a great deal on any of them. if you call any of the trusted vendors on the hide like srt supply, euro optics, etc... you will get as good a deal as possible on a new rifle and they will treat you right.

You want a link....PLEASE

You dont even have to leave this sight to see that ! the Euro optic folks are selling TRG 42's for $2200 with that exact tactic. They 42's are more than the TRG 22's at any price level regardless of MAP,dealer, distributor,GSA or retail. The 22's have been availible for $2200 several times the second half of this year alone.

Consider yourself "almost swayed" per your words.

Re: AE MKII or DTA SRS or TRG-22

Camaroguy- if you are in Maine or close, feel free to shoot both my TRG and my AW any time. Shoot a case of ammo through each, for all I care. I bought them to be used, not sit in the case.

Cheapest one I see on their webpage is 2698$? I haven't been keeping a close eye on the various web retailers pricing on TRG22's because I'm not in the market for one. Sounds like a good deal which is why I asked.

$5995!?!? *GULP* That's AW territory right there...

Even ignoring the folders, consider the retail on relatively bare-bones setups, even at discounted prices on the TRG accessories:

TRG-22 Green $2850
TRG Muzzle brake $200
TRG Optilock Scope Mount $269
TRG Bipod $450
TRG 10rd Mag x 4 $740
TRG Tactical Sling $99
Total: $4608

AE MkII Green Fixed w/ Muzzle Brake $3696
AE Picatinny rail $0 (Included with rifle)
AE Muzzle Brake $0 (Included with rifle)
AE Picatinny Scope Mount $195
AE Bipod $357
AE 10rd Mag x 4 $309
AE Green Sling $67
Total: $4429

You're almost $200 under the TRG package costs, and that's at full retail on the AE and its accessories.

With all due respect but i think there is more to it than just difference in prices.
I own a TRG-22 and my work rifle is AI AWSM (338LM) so i know both systems pretty well.

First why would someone buy everything Sako or AI?
as i dont like the brake on both. I prefur Roedale brake. But that might just be me.
Working now over 11 years with the AI scope mounts i am glad we will be replacing them for something much better, Personally i would not spend a single dollar on that mount. Not saying the Sako mount is all that but its a better mount than the AI.
As for bipods they are two different types and both have their pro's and con's
For static shooting the TRG bipod is perfect for shooting moving targets the Parker hale might have the edge, so this is all personal choice.
Same thing with rifle slings.

So i think there is more to it than just adding up number, fair enough only the basic needs stays intact and thats the rifle and mags.

Also Green stock TRG is more expensive because of the Phosphate finish. Does the AE has that? i dont know. if not you can get the TRG in black and save more as well.

Re: AE MKII or DTA SRS or TRG-22

It's strange how much the price differences differ from country to country. In the UK the basic TRG is more expensive that the AE and the TRG with the phosphate finish is not far off the price of an AW when you add in the cost of the bipod and brake.
