The morning hunt was frustrating as hell. A really nice Tom strutted his stuff out of gun range and held close to two hens. I got back into the woods for the afternoon hunt and had quite an experience. The easy part was when the 5 Toms came out of the woodsline into the field that I was set up on. I took a shot at the biggest bird and hit him hard at 44 yards. The fun started after that. He flopped back to the edge of the woods / abyss and made a path about 200 yards straight down. I hustled after him and ran / slid my way to him at the bottom. 15 minutes and alot of sweat later, I had humped back up to the blind. Note to self: Next time, wait for the bird to get further into the field before shooting.

Weight: 22 lbs 4 oz

Re: Afternoon hunt

I forgot to show off my new custom long range precision turkey gun. It's a Ruger Red Label All Weather Synthetic 12 gauge with 30" barrels and Carlson choke tubes (Extended Extra Full Turkey on top barrel & full on bottom). I covered the satin stainless barrels with Bear Tooth neoprene skins.

Carlson's. Check out this link: http://www.choketube.com/ruger.html

I bought the Red Label "previously owned". It should have come with a set of tubes, but it only came with skeet. I searched all over and found that Carlson's had the biggest selection and less expensive than OEM stuff from Ruger.

Re: Afternoon hunt

I added a post to my NTRP Client Review thread in the Training Section to acknowledge how lessons learned in a precision rifle course helped me in the woods. My training in ensuring a level aim and trigger / weapon control reflected in my making this shot. Very simply, I wanted to add that the training (whether directed specifically at hunting or not) can translate in all platforms and make you a better shooter.

I will have to go see Josh then, as I missed a gobbler at 11 yards the other day.

As much as I hated to add to his ego (hahaha), I had to text him and thank him again. The training paid off in ways I never imagined.
