Was just scrolling through AGM's site an couldn't help but notice the array of crazy looking goggles, PVS14s, and almost everything.
What's the decision on them for items such as duals? I see no reviews, minimal online info...so here I am.
PVS31s?
Anvis 9?

I think the general consensus is AGM is a hard pass. The BNVDs are armasight 51 BNVDs. TFB has a review on them

Sig supposedly has a contract with FLIR to offer them a loaners at their NVG courses, so they probably work fine. But do you have better alternatives for your hard earned dollar, more than likely yes.

I had wondered the same and only have read some comments on poor chinese quality and they don't hold up. I since have known someone who was a rep for them and moved on because their cs was crap. He sold mostly to people he knew and didn't want to be associated with them after only a year.

After going back and looking , I lucked out. The one I ended up getting is NOT AGM, he had them, we had discussed them, but I was adamant on L3, GEN 3, WP, Filmless, High Spec, not crazy high, I don’t use it enough currently, if that changes, I’ll pay for all the Bells and whistles at that time.

Glad I slipped out of that Trap!!

Does this apply to AGM's thermals as well?

I bought their bottom of the line TM160 from their booth at a gun show here (they are local to me). I know its limits and just wanted something to pick out heat spots.

I paid $375 otd.

Their thermal units look better than their PVS14s- the 14s I looked at during Shot had those Israeli knockoff housings with the odd glass- several manufacturers were actually using them.

This is the one I almost fell for, I am glad the business owner steered me into the L3 unit I have. I had no clue they’re Chinese. Glad I saw this thread!

Chinese or not is not the issue. The carson good stuff is actually made by qioptiq in Singapore. The Israeli stuff meets milspec, the minimum bar. But yes it is generally frowned upon cuz its not optically as good as the carson, and supposedly the dealer price is far cheaper, but dealers sell them for the same price.

So say it was sold appropriately at a more affordable lower price, offering as the entry lvl tier. Id say ppl would have less of a problem with it. Instead of smoke, mirrors, and more profit.

After what we are dealing with here in the US because of China, everyone of my friends & myself, Chose not to buy from China anymore to the extent other options are available.

Thats fine and I support the fact that you choose to.

Just know that any notion that foreign manufacture WILL BE inferior are simply not true. Disseminate facts not bias.

Understand the Chinese aren't pushing these units on you. You local dealer who's making a much larger profit margin selling these are.

Also if you shop at any large department stores, you are shopping Chinese made products, due to the choice of the stores to provide such products to make the margins to stay afloat.

The way I understand it the knockoff housings are made in Israeli not in China. The ones I saw at Shot definitely had a different "feel" to them than a standard PVS14 housing as well.

It’s not just about the Quality for me! However, to say Chinese NV & Thermal are on par with US made is, IMO and from what people who shoot way more then myself including dealers who have to deal with the complaints, incorrect!

I think we were talking about similar but different points. Three things for me.

One: It's the game not the player, dealers are ultimately the ones choosing to sell these units for a better profit.

Two: "milspec" is more than likely composed of foreign parts.

Three: Foreign doesn't mean bad necessarily and foreign does not always mean china. In this case Israeli = bad.

I have had two different devices from AGM, a PVS-14 GP gen 2+ and sold that to purchase a gen 2+ WP NVG-40(dual tube setup). I love them. They source their gen 2 intensifiers from Photonis, made in France, and their gen 3 intensifiers from L3/Harris. Gen 3 devices are assembled by L3/Harris and shipped to AGM, while AGM assembles their own gen 2 devices here in the USA.

I am getting this information directly from the president of the company while speaking with him about my recent inquiry about their products. They are well worth it if you cannot afford more expensive units. I do not know if the housing or optical devices are made elsewhere(China, etc.), however that does not mean the quality is not there if they are made outside the US.

I like my AGM rattler and taipan thermals. Better than my old pulsar trail. We’ll see if they are as durable.

Only complaint so far is the zero adjustments on the rattler are like 1” at 100 and 2” at 50. Hard to get an exact zero.
