AI PSR Rifle in non kit form

[HH4]

I heard there would an offering of the PSR style accuracy international available as an individual caliber rifle, with the option of purchasing other caliber conversions at a later time. Does anyone have info on this?

Well all I have heard are rumors. The rumor after 2012 SHOT was that a PSR rifle would be available in each individual caliber with caliber change kits available for purchase from AI. Well fast forward to 2013 SHOT and talk of the PSR stock for an AX rifle will be available for later this year. I dunno what AI's plans are but they are in no hurry. Maybe they are protecting the investment on a full bore PSR kit.

Mile High told me that they have not heard anything about the short action version of the PSR...

Why would anyone buy a standard AX when you could buy a short action PSR with quick change barrel capabilities for not much more. AI has been around long enough to know that it isn't wise to introduce one product that would cannibalize another. I imagine if/when they do bring it out it wont be as cheap as they predict and it wont be out for 2+ years.

The cannibalization of the current AX has begun: I wuz gonna buy one this year, and now I'm gonna' wait for the AIAX Covert SA.

Two years' wait? No fucking problem for me - I have plenty of nice rifles already.

It's just one less current AX that they'll sell now, and if they bring out the AX Covert SA sooner I'm ready to fork over the cash to MHSA. Now.

The AX "chassis" on the rifles is bonded to the action so you won't be able to change that around. To the best of our knowledge, the PSR back end won't be convertable to rifles as the hinge is a different design for the folder, especially being a right side folder vs left side. Same goes for the AX chassis systems. But that's not to say AI won't make a convertable piece, just don't expect one.

I wouldn't expect a short action PSR to be coming out at least in the first half of this year. It's not something we even have part numbers or information for. Just to give you an idea on timeframe, we are still receiving guns we ordered at or more than a year ago. We have only received the very first few of the regular PSR kits and still have many to be delivered.

If you want an AX now, buy it now when you can get one. They are selling like they're going out of style, and should you decide down the road you want a PSR or whatever version of the AX comes out, the AX retains a great resale value.

Just my 2 pennies worth.

AX - $8600
PSR AX - 17,000

Thats why. Until AI sells the PSR with an individual caliber and that ridiculous price comes down I think the standard AX will outsell the PSR.

thanks for your in depth analysis but after talking with AI at SHOT they told me that the short action PSR wouldn't be much more in price than the current short action AIAX

I love the concept of the rifle. But I don't like the implementation.

When you want to break it down in the field you have to worry about a tool to break it down. If you loose the tool inn the field then you can't break it down until you get back home.

I guess AI could have created a tension knob...but, I still like the allen key idea. If your spending this amount of money, and you are worried about losing the allen key, buy $100 worth of them. Put one in each pocket of your Drag bag/Pelican case, jean pockets, man purse, etc...

Lone Wolf thanks for the review. If anyone reading has access to that nice little case you pulled that rifle from please pm me so I can get one ordered. I am waiting on my PRS and would love to have that case now! All cut out and ready to set my rifle in!
