AICS and Jewell trigger needs inletting?

Just a week or so ago I received my AICS 1.5 non-folding stock and my Rem 700 SPS AAC-SD 20-inch .308 rifle.

Then I had a Jewell varmint trigger installed on the Rem 700 action. But with the Jewell trigger on it, the action will not seat into the AICS chassis. It is at my gunsmith now to be inletted for a precise fit.

Is this AICS/Rem 700/Jewell trigger fitting problem common? Or am I in for some future fit/accuracy problems as well?

My gunsmith is quite good and a friend so I am not worried about his skills. Just wondering if this is normal.

I just swapped out a timney for a jewell in my 30-06 and when I tighten down the action screws I cant move the safety... when you get yours back... if its not too much trouble can you take a pic of how much the stock was removed? the aluminum part thats in the way? if not I understand.. I may try to put some lipstick or something that will mark up the aluminum stock body so I can see where its rubbing and just dremel it out so it fits.. funny thing is I did the same for the timney on the other side cause of the timney design there is a button that moves in and out with the safety going on and off.. and when I switched over I thought "im home free!" Not really....

Yep! just a few minutes in a milling machine will do it.

I had a problem of not being able to put it into safe, so I took it apart and switched the position from fire to safe and installed it like that. I was able to switch it back and forth from there.

found this thread with pics.. so this may help anyone else... hopefully the redundancy is a help.. that way future people in need can find this.... Im knida upset that the new format lost so many previous posts that were out there.
I go to look something up and when I see a link for snipershide. Im like cool.. this should have an answer cause there are a lot of great people in the "know" on the forum.. but unless it was made a sticky.. most posts are gone.

REALLY? That sounds pretty awesome. I'll have to try that tonight.

Question, since a few months have passed have you had any issues with your safety? Has your safety remained functional?

I've got the Timney straight-shoe model, and if I could get around putting a dremel to the AICS I'd sleep better.

I've have 2 1.5's. ones a long action and ones a short. Both are equipped with Jewell hvr's. the long action needed inletting with a dremel. The SA dropped right in no problem. Ism that the short action was a Stiller Tac 30 and the la was a trued 700.

Oh, I also had problems with the safety on the long action. Had to Dremel out a good part of the Trigger housing. Also found that if you work it back-and-forth long enough it kind of works itself out. But in the beginning I would also noticed that if I clicked the safety forward the rifle would dry fire. So In my case the Dremel was no option. Had to be done. Now it works like a charm

I have an opportunity to buy a lightly used Jewell trigger and I was concerned with inletting the stock. I guess if that is required I could find a vendor on the Hide to do the inletting. But according to Aimsmall55, inletting for my short action AICS may not be necessary.

This is the reply that I received from AICS concerning a Jewell trigger in an AICS chassis:

Hi Chris,

Current versions of our chassis do not accept Jewell triggers without modification. The new models unveiled at SHOT Show will.

At least the new chassis system addressed this issue. Good to know for a potential 300 win mag build.
