I am looking for a stock for a 338 Edge build and trying to decide if I want to stick with what I know (MCM A5 or A3-5) or try one of the AICS chasis's. I am curious about the AICS 2.0 Is there any disadvantages to the AICS 2.0 vs the 1.5 I like the idea of having a folding stock on a stick that is going to have a 28" barrel for portability. My question to you guys that have used them is, is there any down side like stock stiffness, slop in folding system, possible issue with large calibers? I am not really interested in the 1.5 version as I will stick with my MCM stocks if I do not go the folding route.

Also concerned about magwell clearance using the AICS Lapua chasis for a 338 Edge. Not sure if this will work yet either.

Thoughts, opinions, comments, likes/dislikes ??????

Re: AICS Chasis 1.5 vs 2.0

It all started with a GAP/Badger 308 in a 2.0 and form there it grew to the point where I have AICS on all but one tac gun. As good as the Manners is on that gun, I just feel strange behind it now.
My vote is for a 2.0 and don't look back. The chassis is strong as hell and there is absolutely no wiggle in the folder.
The only thing I would suggest is watch out for the big bolt knobs. My Surgeon Scalpel has the sniper knob and it bites my bear sized knuckle. Probably due to my shooting style and I'll figure that out.

Re: AICS Chasis 1.5 vs 2.0

I have used both the 1.5 and 2.0 version. 2.0 version has absolutely no wiggle in the folding mechanism; very stiff and solid. Both mine where S/A versions so I can't really comment on the 338 edge question.

personally, i wouldn't even consider a 1.5 aics for a long action build. with the 1.5, you need to remove the cheek piece to get the bolt out. with the 2.0, you just swing the butt out of the way.

i doubt i'd use a 1.5 for any build again. with the 1.5, cleaning is more of a pain in the ass. the cheek piece and butt pad need to be removed for the cleaning rod. with the 2.0, you just swing the butt out of the way.

i have not seen any downsides to the 2.0.

Re: AICS Chasis 1.5 vs 2.0

On R700 SA builds the 1.5 is no issue at all as far as bolt removal. The cheek piece is in the way of removal with Badger SA.
I use quick knobs for my 1.5 stocks when I have bolt removal issues. If I have a "sweet spot" for the cheek piece I use spacers to keep it there and get it back there if removed.
Still, I prefer the 2.0 and would use it on my next build.

Re: AICS Chasis 1.5 vs 2.0

2.0 is worth the extra $$$. I use a short tactical 5.11 case and the folder fits perfectly, even with my 26" tube.

NO SLOP or movement in the hinge, and cleaning is a breeze..fold the stock, remove bolt, insert bore guide. I can't see ever buying a 1.5...if you shop around you can get a pretty good deal on a 2.0 (Lyn Schryver Gun Sales) that is not much more than the 1.5 chassis.

Great, sounds like AICS 2.0 is the way to go then if I can find out if the bottom metal will work or if there is a bottom metal option I can go with for the longer OAL for the Edge. Anybody know if there are options or if this is even a possibility?

+1 on Lyn. He is a great guy. I got my 2.0 from him this past summer.

I agree about the large bolt knobs. They get in the way of my XXL hands. I much prefer the standard Remmie bolt. Even better yet, the AE or AW. Ain't in the budget tho.
