Suppressors Allen Engineering

I'm looking pretty hard at the Allen Engineering AE30 for multiple rifles. They look to be pretty new & I have read a few good reviews of Mr. Allen's suppressors but was wondering if anyone here had some first hand experiences with his products?

I've never used a reflex design suppressor, but I read some opinion on the interwebs that they are better at staying concentric if they come loose during shooting due the the two points of contact? Could be nonsense...

Ron Allen has been manufacturing suppressors since 1983. He was the sole subcontractor for Ops Inc. So all of those Ops Inc Cans on the Mark 12's all came from Ron Allen's shop.

Ops Inc has had some issues and has not been shipping product for quite some time.

The thing I like about the way his AE30 mounts is that it's direct threaded, and unlike the Ops Inc 3rd model, it mounts on the industry standard 5/8 x 24 threads. (The 3rd mounted on an odd 11/16x24 thread pattern).

The concentric nature of the reflex design is a draw for the precision rifle guys because of the minimal impact on the POI Shift.

The AE30 can be fit to the AR platform as well. Just put on a thread adapter, and the collar for the AEM5 or Mark 12 style collar and you can screw it right on.

Of the several suppressors that I own & use I like the Allen best of all. It is my most recent "can" but in a short time it has become my favorite. I use this 30 cal. "can" on a .284 Win. & am extremely happy with the results. For lack of a better term it shoots "gentle" on the .284.
In my opinion I would buy in confidence.

You will fail at finding a single negative thing about Ron. I've spoke to him on the phone a couple times, he stands behind his product 100%, is straight forward and makes awesome suppressors.

Buy with confidence. If I could I would reprofile my m24 barrel for an AE30 but I need to look into it more first.

I have one on order with Jerry Bell. We're waiting for the serial # to do my form 4 so that I can put it on my MK 12 Mod 0.

I run the .30 12th on my SR-25 & MK12 & should have the .22 12th & 15th next month & an AEM2 a few months after that. Will do some comparison vids once they're all home.

Real quick question are the mounting collar and sleeve the same as the OPS inc ones? I already have a Mk12 Mod1 and want to get the AEM 5 but dont want to have to get new collar and mount.

As per their website:

The AEM5 is the direct fit replacement for your MK12 SPR. The AEM5 attaches to the weapon via a mount(not included) and a collar that goes over the barrel for alignment. The suppressor mounts via threads on the outside of the mount centering on the adapter fitting. A 20 degree taper on the adapter locks the silencer onto the barrel.

I recently installed the AEM5 and notice that the can will only screw on the muzzle thread about 2.5 turns and doesn’t fully fit snug on the mounting collar. Is this ok and is there a way to test to make sure the fit is correct? Thanks for the input!!

Check the Ops inc thread on ARFCOM silencer board, ron posts there. It is most likely an issue with the barrel contour being slightly different. Ron should be able to make you a custom collar to get the 7ish turns you need.

Also check that the collar is fully seated, and that the MD was installed correctly.

Mine only went on 2-2.5 turns orginally on a WOA barrel. Shot fine but after speaking with Ron we pulled my barrels and moved the shoulder back some. I get 8-9 turns on three different rifles. Absolutely love my AEM5 and will likely go AEM5-30 for my large frame.

Good gouge. Price friendly repro with hopefully less back pressure. Used to get a face full of soot back when I used to carry heavy things around. Anyone have db results?

Yeah, looking back with perfect hindsight, two years later, there is nothing like the Allen Engineering suppressors.

I’ve been running OPS Inc./AE cans hard on M4’s and REM 700 .308‘s for 16 years now. EXCELLENT suppressors with zero problems. You’d be hard pressed to find a better can.

Chances are your barrel is not correctly profile for SPR. We have tested a number of barrels, and most that are commercially available do not pass the test to mount an AEM5 suppressor. This is due to the barrel manufacturers using an incorrect profile diagram, and their mistake dates back to 2000. I am not sure why they have not corrected this. You should get ~ 7 to 9 turns of the suppressor, when you have the collar in the correct position on the barrel.
