Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

I tested some of the originals in FN, Howa, and Rem 700.
Some with Badger and some with CDI bottom metal. A few changes
I thout needed to be made. I got my 7 WSM built off an FN SPR
action back this week and I am testing the WSM 10 rd mag. So far, it holds the rounds at a nice angle even on the 10th.
Cartridges strip smoothly from the mag. I think this one is GTG.
I should have testing on it finished up soon. 19 Scout has one on his Rem 700 7 WSM with Surgeon bottom metal and said it fed
flawlessly in his last competition.

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

Jeff from CDI Precision sent me one for my Win 70 .308 w/ CDI bottom metal. Not sure but don't think that it is Type I or II. Anybody interested would need to contact him for sure.

Anyway, the mag is for the 300 WSM. A few modifications to the feed lips and it has worked flawless for me. Installs solid and drops easily and doesn't have the AICS 10 rd'er wiggle to it.

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

I ran another 50 rounds in our match on Sunday and 0 malfunctions.

Will a magazine be 100%, hell no and if anyone tells you an AICS mag is 100%, they're high. Just gotta run what works in your rig.

The Alpha mag is just another option for us shooters to turn to that is 100% US made at a better price point.

IT WORKS!

Had to take a hammer to the back lip/clip thing and smack the hell out of it a few times, and just kept going until it was a little lower. Clips in fine and falls freely, unfortunately I don't have any loaded rounds at the moment so I can't run it through for a full function test, but it should. It feels a little sharper than my AICS mag, but it seems to be okay when working the bolt.

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

Got mine today...I ordered it Tuesday, so 2 day shipping is awesome. The mag appears to work flawlessly in my FN PBR with CDI bottom metal. Thanks guys for making a great product and your persistence in trying to iron out all of the possible problems.

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

So after the report from a fellow member here, The FN-SPR style rifle does not like the Alpha magazine. This has been an on-going issue. The claw extractor on the bolt is the main issue. Per the previous post here, the FN-Patrol Bolt Rifle works great. It is a push feed system and does not have the same bolt style as the SPR.

I did get some to work a while back, but it required some heavy mods to the magazine, feed-lips etc.

So at this point, sadly, I would not reccomend getting an Alpha for use with the FN-SPR.

But, I will keep working at it!

Thanks,

Chris

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

Just tried my ten round mags out today and the Mag didn't like the tenth round. Anyone else have a problem like this? It was like it was on the verge of popping out by itself. I couldn't get it to load on my feed ramps properly either. Nine rounds and below were no issue though. I was shooting COR BON 175gr BTHP out of my KMW built Surgeon action, AICS chasis .308.

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

I nearly canceled my order for the type 2 mags because the report was they would not work in my FN SPR with CDI bottom metal.
Chris said he would send them anyways. I thought I would end up returning them.
I am happy to report they work without a hitch.
I had to open up the feed lips just a little. That's all I had to do.
Worked flawlessly.
They seem a bit beefier than the AICS but I won't be able to load my Bergers as long. They are a little shorter.
This rifle is a 6.5 Creedmoor.

Anyways, I'm happy with my Alpha mags.

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

FWIW.

Still checking my new mags.
Another difference I notice is they are quieter than the AICS mags.
The AICS will carry a tone kind of like a pitch fork when you thump it where the Alpha mag doesn't do that and seems like it would be much more neutral vibration wise.

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

I run the Alpha Mags in Savages with CDI, .308 and .260 and so far, Flawless. The AI Mags were just to big for me. Great Job Alpha ! and WOW at the Customer Service and fast shipping. These folks got it going on.

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

Still no problems with my 2 new generation "Alpha" mags. Have ran several full mags on each of them with no problems.

Great product and customer service to boot. They went out of their way to make sure my mags were GTG.

I will be buying more.

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

I'm really liking the Type II, thanks brother! They seem to run a little better in my rifle than the Type I's did. Once I get me 7-08's DBM swiched out I will be getting more!
Thanks Chris!!

I checked with Customs mate. A bunch of approvals and paperwork needed to bring it in yourself.
For ppl from New South Wales it's pretty straightforward. Use the Police B709 form , send it to the email, the firearms registry send you a stamped certificate/form allowing you to import. If the item is seized at customs they will send you a letter - all you have to do is send the original to the customs address provided and they release it.

I actually ordered a Badger M5 DBM kit and it arrived without the form. I just ordered some of the alpha industries mags so I sent off the form just to be sure.

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

So in this thread we have one yes and one no for the FN SPR with CDI metal. The one who says they WILL work, is it Type I or II?

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

Back when these mags first became available, I ordered my Alpha Mag from Jeff @ CDI Precision. Told him that I needed a mag with a COAL minimum of 2.950. What he sent (I'm guessing) is a Type 3 mag for a 300 WSM. I altered the feed lips and it runs just fine. I'm guessing that the Type II runs as is with no modifications for the long-seated .308 rds.?

BTW, I'm running CDI bottom metal on a Winchester 70 and the Alpha Mag fits snug w/o any side to side flop...unlike the 10 rd AI.

Re: Alpha Industries (MORTA MAG) Latest Gen Mag

The Type-1's work well in my team mates FN SPR with CDI bottom metal.

We have found the magazines to be reliable, durable and most of all a very reasonable alternative to AI magazines. Chris at Alpha Industries & Manufacturing hasn’t rested on his laurels, since the release of the MORTA magazine he has continued to refine the design until it was incredibly reliable with all AICS compatible magazine bottom-metal and chassis systems. He is even expanding his line to include .338, .408 and WSM magazines.

I'm assuming with nearly the same dimensions the 300 saum should feed ok out of the wsm alpha mag. Anyone have any experience using them for this. Also the alphas should be compatible with any bottom metal that accepts aics mags correct?
