Well an email went out to Lucas for a bore guide order. Unfortunately due to his current workload he won't be taking orders until April. What's the next best thing without having to spend over $40-50? Surely there are other products on the market that do just a good of a job keeping the cleaning rod off the rifling.

Re: Alternative to Lucas?

i only use sinclair and love em. cant see spending twice the money worrying about if the rod flexes and rubs the inside of barrel. cleaning a gun to me is and can be very time consuming. with the money we spend in guns im not gonna beat the bore or knock the crown being in to much of a hurry. although im not nocking the lucas,as i wouldnt mind trying them. i wont be waiting in line when i need a bore guide

Re: Alternative to Lucas?

I did a bit more reading after dinner and discovered Neil Jones' bore guides. They aren't that much more than the Lucas offerings and comes with a custom sized rod bushing/centering insert.

Re: Alternative to Lucas?

Well I went ahead and ordered a Neil Jones bore guide. It comes with a custom sized bushing for the rod. Mr Jones also asked for the bolt diameter so either he's going to find the closest fitting one or it's going to get turned to proper diameter. I'll update when it comes in.

Re: Alternative to Lucas?

ive never had a problem with the white plastic ones from Sin Clair. Just make sure you order the notched adapter for the end so you can add your solvents with your patch / brush inside the bore guide. And get a few extra O Rings.

Re: Alternative to Lucas?

Wow, I just made the cutoff, ordered on the 11th for a february delivery.

I've had a good experience with the sinclair bore guides.

Re: Alternative to Lucas?

Can someone provide a part# for the Sinclair that will fit a Surgeon 591. I checked the website but its a little confusing, I just want to make sure I get the correct one. I also called and asked about it but I was unsure of the part number the employee gave me, she didnt seem to sure her self.

Thanks in advance,
Taylor

Here is the link to the one I use for my 300 winmags. They are way cheaper than a Lucas, and do the job just as good, atleast I think so. Ive never had a problem. You choose one based on caliber, not action.

My bad, it's for a Surgeon 591 .308

Re: Alternative to Lucas?

If anyone was interested, I just placed an order for a Lucas yesterday. He said it would be in his next batch and will be sent out when completed.
Guess it means he caught back up with the orders, send him an email.

Well that totally blows. It's not like I emailed him weeks ago. He told me April is when he'll resume orders. Now if he told me a week or two to catch up I would have waited.
Well I hope the Neil Jones guide is every bit as good as the Lucas. Its always good to have alternatives on the market that do the same job (or better).

Re: Alternative to Lucas?

I'm a little bit upset about this. I also emailed him back in December and he told me to contact him in March. Reading all these guys that were able to order in January makes me not want to get any of his products now.

Had the same experience with Lucas. His product may be great but CS was not that great. I called in December and he said it would be mid Jan before he would take my order. I was ok with that but talking to him on the phone it just seems he had a take or leave kind of attitude, he wasn't rude but wasn't helpful either. I'll probably go another route based on my experience.

That's exactly what I got. Nice tight fit, pretty cheap too. Does a nice job.
