Looking for a new round for my sniper team. Right now we use Hornady !68 gr amax rounds and havent been getting the accuracy that we like from it. We would prefer a round that is similar to the amax, due to it breaking apart upon impact. This is mostly because of a liability factor, and this is what the bosses like. The guys dont really care, as long as that round is accurate, and we hit what we are aiming at. Do any companies beside Hornady and Black Hills make a match grade amax configured round?, Also what other companies make match grade ammo that isnt an amax configued round. Sorry, I know thats a dumb question, but for years I havent had to look for or buy any match grade ammo, it was always supplied to me. Any help is appreciated We all shot a Rem 700 with varying bbl lengths, onehas an AI, and one Blaser All in .308

Good suggestions from Ballisticd, the 185s were the standard for years as far as accuracy shooting, some top FTR shooters have moved on to loading heavier bullets. For your purpose if you were just buying production ammo the 185 will deliver superior performance to what you already use.
What's the twist rate on the barrel?
For closer ranges, I like 168gr federal gold medal match.

Problem with Juggs for your application is over penetration . I would suggest Applied Ballistics Munitions 168 or 185

Yeah the 168gr and 175gr should work well through all those twist rates. Federal's gmm seems to consistently shoot well for almost every system out there. I've never seen any ballistics gel tests with the SMK's, but I've heard the thin copper jackets shed fairly quickly.
I've tried a lot of different factory match loads, and so far the gmm shot about the same, or better than the more expensive stuff.

Prime Ammo uses a 175 grain OTM projectile that they say is great for pigs, deer, self defense, etc. it also happens to be good stuff. Accurate and consistent. It should be good in both 1:10 and 1:12 twists out to and past 1000 yards.
Your team reminds me of one of the early Homeland Security Sniper Teams that was stood up in my region after 9/11. The guys bought their own rigs but received training support from the PD and local agencies to augment the limited number of actual SRT "snipers". Those guys were able to pull their ammo from either DHS or their SRT. Are you guys running into an issue where you aren't being supplied ammo, or are y'all looking for T&E purposes at different options?
Fair enough, just curious. FGMM was the issued ammo for our guys and I never heard a complaint about their ammo holding them back. It can be had for about $20 per box if you hit the sales right.
What kind of accuracy (or lack thereof) have you been seeing from the 168gr Amax Match factory ammo?
Some guns are getting 1/4 moa some are up to 2". But that's per ammo box. It's been very sporadic without any consistency. One guy will get great groups one week. The next with a different box and he's changing his dope. All same lot ammo. From some reading around I've heard this has been a problem lately. And when we purchase 15-20k rounds at a time it's very hard to send it all back We want a round that is consistent across the board
It's funny you mention this. We're currently shooting 168FGMM and I've been looking to move to something that's designed for more terminal performance. I was looking hard at the factory options with AMAX bullets, but I definitely don't want to significantly sacrifice accuracy. Guess I'll start researching the OTM round that Prime offers.
Thought Black Hills loaded AMAX projos in their 168 grain match ammo. At least they used too. Quality control is top notch.
With that much variation, I'd start by chronoing the ammo to identify if it has extreme variations in extreme spread and standard deviation, check OAL and weigh some pulled projos. If that checks out, I'd start looking at equipment issues on the weapons.

Have you looked into eld x from Hornady it may meet your requirements.
Several company's are loading it. It's not the bullet that has the problem it's the lack of qc from the manufacturer on the loading process.
Have had similar poor results with Hornady rounds lately, disappointed.
But the bullets are good.
Maybe take a look at beck ammo very consistent loads with whatever bullet you choose.
