That's right, this finger is for you. 1 year ago today I had the surgery to take my entire thyroid out after finding out I was sluggish as hell due to a cancerous nodule growing on it. When they told me this over the phone my initial thought was that this cant be right....Im only 33.

Personally I blame that toxic shitwater we dredged around in in Kosovo for it but whatever. Anyways, my annual test has cleared me for another year of family, shooting, buying shit I dont need online at 3am and randomly walking up to my wife and grabbing her tits before wondering off like nothing happened. Worst and the best year ever.

Been there and done that, German! A Navy doctor found mine. I had my thyroid removed at 28 yrs. old. I take a synthroid pill everyday. that was 41 years ago. As far as I know, I'm good to go. If you've got to have cancer this is the type to have. I trust they got it all for you. Usually, it is contained in the one "pocket" and they simply remove it. I had to have followup exams every year for 20 years to keep a check on everything. So far I can't even tell I had it except for the scar at the base of my throat. Good luck with it. Life aint over and don't let it be!!!!

Looks like we had the exact same thing.

The synthroid dosing period after the surgery was the worse part of everything. They started with a VERY low dose, had me stay on it for 6 or so weeks, come back in for a blood test to tell me the dose is way to low. Then they give me a dose barely above that dose. Rinse/repeat for almost 9 months of feeling tired 24 hours a day until they got it level.

This was year 1 hence why I am happy as I was told if it was going to reoccur it is most likely within the first year after receiving the surgery and radioactive pill.

Good luck to him. If they can remove it and you have a good pathology (didn't spread), there is a high possibility you will never hear from it again.

As a side bar to this you will be interested to know who the doctor was that removed mine. "trapper John". The original! the tv program was a take off of the MASH doctors and used his exploits in making the show. My doctor was in wwll and also in Korea. His real name was John Lyday and ended up practicing in Greensboro, n.c.. I went to him for 20 years and never knew who he was until he died and the news paper printed a large section about him on the bottom of the front page. I only wished he would have told me what time he was seeing me, but he was that kind of guy, very modest and unassuming. One of the most endearing things I remember was when I was on the gurney out in the hall waiting for the operating room he came by to tell me that it would only be a few more minutes and while standing there he said a prayer. Unbelievable!!! Talk about putting you at ease! I felt better about going into surgury after that. What a guy!!!

I was 28 years old when I started having a hard time breathing during PT (I tend to push hard) and then started coughing up blood shortly there after. But being a hard ass Marine I blew it off and pushed even harder. I started coughing up more and more until I started waking up choking on it. I finally went to the doc and was told I had asthma (B.S.), after 5 months I got Pneumonia and Pleurisy for 2 months, but just kept getting blown off at the doc. Finally was able to see a specialist and found out I had Bronchogenic Carcinomas. Short story long I had my lower lobe of my left lung cut out. That was 5 years ago, I never skipped a beat and I am still kicking ass. So I hear what you are saying. You just got to grab the bull by the balls and kick it in the ass!

Have had 3 friends (one a girlfriend) who went through the exact same thing as you. I'm glad you made it through alright. I remember before being diagnosed, my GF would have a hard time just getting up off the floor (she's 5' 8"/120 lbs and 30yrs old).

I just came back from laying a pack of cigs, a cup of joe, and some flowers on my Father's grave. He died a little under 2 yrs ago from cancer at the age of 59. So, I'm with you OP, on a hearty "FUCK YOU!" to cancer.

Glad to hear your OK...I didnt have thyroid cancer but a weird thing did happen to me...

So I'm 48...good health and applying for my USCG Captains License...get all my paperwork done, take the physical send away my packet to West Virginia...weeks go by...nothing...then I get a letter delayed for medical testing...doc reviewing my packet wants me to get tested for hypothyroidism...now he's never seen me in his life adn he's never seen my medical records that I know of...the physical I took had no blood work other than drug testing...and he diagnoses me with hypothyroidism on a hunch? 6 years now with 12.5 Micrograms of Synthroid a day and I've never felt better...like you it took a few months to get levels right but now they are spot on...then 2 years ago I get Salivary Gland Cancer...same exact type my dad had, within months of each other, same side, same gland...go figure...we both beat it
