Night Vision And then there was one — Wilcox RAID-x

no different than the price of ammo, and there are buyers. And for what. Unless a war kicks on in the states, there is no need. Fun-sure. Necessary, not hardly and this coming from a guy with all the good gear.

look at the Steiner site and look for a
DBAL-A4
Does more than you need and priced un der 3K, MSRP.
My DBAL-A2 does more than I need and is on my 6.5 Creedmoor, only disadvantage is no white light and size.

I'm going to be a little bit of a contrarian on this one. Having used the Raid x and Mawl C1 a bit, the raid is about 10-15% better than the Mawl, if that. Now, if you need to call in air support with your full power laser, then perhaps more better than that, but for any other use, they are really close. I know, heresy, but it is what it is. Mawl has better ergos, Raid is smaller and more adjustable, but who wants to change the adjustments on a mawl? They are perfect.

I’m working on the air support thing. FP layzer beams are a must.
I don't have a huge payload, but I'll drop water balloons on what you're painting any time.

Cannot comment on the MAWL, as I've never used one. But, per Horta's prior post (in this thread), the MAWL is twice the weight of the Raid. I'm not a math wizard either, but I do believe, looking at the numbers, that's over a 1/4 lb difference.

Totally agree about the ergo involved, but it's just something about that damn Raid ... Call it curb appeal. I'd even wear it as a necklace. She's that pretty. Ergo aside, my impression of the MAWL has always been it's like hanging a medium sized dick off the side of your gun. And I don't ever dick around with guns.

If four oz matters, it is time to hit the gym, bro.

There is nothing wrong with Raid ergos, the mawl is just a better switching system. They are both great units, but the difference is not as great as the demand for the Raid would imply. I mean, if you are going to be hitting targets with a laser at 600 meters, maybe there is a bit of difference. At 400 none, really. Those are long shots at 1x with a laser. With a clip on, the raid is probably better out to big distances.

I doubt I could even see 600m, let alone hit anything at that distance. As for the gym, long overdue. But, then again, I think I'm suffering from low T. So there's the motivational piece that's missing.

OK, health issues aside, my point is that I have a couple of Raids, and I like them a lot, but the Mawl is a really great product that has a lower price, a warranty and normal availability. The raid is only better at the extremes, and even then it is not better in every way.

As for your testosterone issues, you should get your ass on TRT. No time like the present to get better.

Are you referring to the Mawl c or da?

Not to divert, but while we're on the Wilcox tip, anyone ever see this thing in the wild? https://www.wilcoxind.com/product/product_combat_wrs.php

I wonder how it performs, compared to other offerings in the market. Also, anyone known when the Voodoo-S may make her public appearance? Looking forward to seeing some reviews on that and maybe some of the other products from POT.
Wonder how long it would take Private Snuffy to snap that LCD screen off its hinges.

Warranty is 1 year for the mawl same for raid. If you got a raid most likely (at least presently) you'll be able to get it warrantied because you either got it thru your dealer or the individual you bought it from would thru theirs.

Yes a year from now that'll be moot and it'll be back to that argument.

For me, it's not about the extra 1/4lb snapping my arms off, but more about the balance of the rifle and how the rifle handles. I feel the less weight at furthest point from the fulcrum makes the rifle handle (subjective of course) better say when you snap from high or low ready, in a noticeable way.

Note I am more smurf than Ajax, so definetly YMMV.

Why doesn't anybody on the NV forum hit the fucking gym?

Yes, the raid has better balance. The mawl has better ergos and switching. It depends which is more important to you.

Cause we too busy pounding out keyboard replies and eating jelly filled donuts and drinking coffee to keep our strength up.

I do hit the woods for a workout and some sweating. Summer is a bitch down south, even at night.

Do the current units ship with the Unity TAPS or SF dual? I've seen different reports. Can't wait for my RAID-X to arrive. Just placed the order so it will probably be 3-4 months (at least).

Damn you look happy. The pig, not so much. I tell you one thing, no matter how much time I spend in the gym, I do not have the neck to hold up that smorgasbord you've got on there!

I am laughing my ass off because I gave the guys I was hunting with a chance that night. I told them I would not use my TWS that night and only use my MFAL. Long story short I was doing the killen and they had hogs running off all wounded and missed etc. It was funny and I was a ragging on them big time. To add insult to injury, I shoot hogs with 556 62 grain Greentips while they shoot with high dollar nuclear tipped 6.8 and 300 Blackout rounds. I shot that hog at about 90 yards out on the run just as he was hitting the woods.

Biggest problem most people have is they do not have their helmets rigged up correctly where they are truly comfortable and balanced correctly.

4 D Pads with H Nape Chinstrap and just a tad over counterweighted on the back such as your NODS are just kind of floating in front works perfect for me. If anything, I like to have to slightly flex my neck muscles forward to push the NODS down a little. If a person has to try constantly picking up your NODS with your neck muscles, you will tire out quickly.

Awesome.

BTW, from now on I am calling you Chiquita Banana.

I wanna see the kit you’re using that can take advantage of the CLAD. :giggle:
Have you ever heard of ECOSI unit? They are available for the right price and it’s a Swir pointer and DA combined. Almost all civilian shooters aren’t about digital night vision yet. It’s coming. 99% of NV shooters use analog gen 3 NV. Which is gen 3. You can switch to either or and my post was about a superior unit to the easily obtainable Raid. I took the NGAL over the Raid. That should tell you something. GSA military pricing has the raid X as the cheapest next gen unit. Under 3k. 😂 It’s around 2500, no tax and free shipping to federal law enforcement and the US military.. 🍺 Ask me how I know?

One of my units is up for trade btw.

What is this “NGAL” you speak of? Does it look like any of these things?

Man you guys make it hard for a guy to resist dipping his toe into NV.

Spetsnaz is gonna have a hard time trying to take the Great Town of Hortaville. (y)

You must be holdin back the Kang ~ A3 UHP. :)

Maybe, but you best have discipline with radios and lasers if you ever go toe to toe with a force that’s modern in any way. The next one may not be up against tough goat fuckers. Just sayin…
