I think and hope you might be right

I'm covered up to my eyeballs in work right now
If there is ANYWAY to get her stretched out this week/weekend I will
I only have 100rds of SWA 139's and got to get on the bench

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

Last time I spoke with George in mid-June, and posted the report in this tread, there were two things that he was going to take care of within two weeks. One of which was coating the OD rings on my used scope purchase to match this build. He was coating weekly, so it wasn't a big deal to coat them when he did the weekly coating.

I'm please to say that I did receive the rings two weeks ago, and I really like the color - it should fit in well with the fields around here.

I have no idea if the second event has occurred, but at least I can use my scope again!...

Great pics, Native - Thank you!

Looking forward to the day that I'll be able to mount that scope on this build - where it belongs!...

Cheers,

Bill

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

Its funny, all it took was one rifle and were all giddy like school girls.. George, you listening? Come on here and give us the skinny, I'll say the rifle looks pretty damn good.. I haven't paid in full but 2/3 so I'm gonna hope for an invoice SOMETIME..

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

Let me know if you guys need the ammo developed for this rifle. Here's my data from the range trip:

My final trip to the range confirmed the load I like. Load G is the money load.

9 shots (cold bore at 100 yard, 8 rounds at 300 yards)
2692 fps avg, 23 ES, 7 SD- temp was about 70 degrees.
CB- 2701- 2693, 2695, 2690, 2704, 2694, 2683, 2691, 2681
Group is just under 1.5" at 300 yards. There were 2 fliers high left. With those 2, the group is right at 3".

Load H was below that, and opened up some. 3 rounds gave me mild pressure signs, so it's as high as I think it can go.

Hoping this weekend afforded <span style="font-size: 11pt"> <span style="color: #000099"> <span style="font-weight: bold">native</span> </span> </span> time to range test his
new rifle. All look forward to a wonderful report!

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

Has anyone else been contacted that their rifle has shipped? We have confirmation that one rifle has been received and that is it, no others?

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

Obviously the guys who paid in FULL, and then maybe the order in which they were paid should be the priority in which the rifles are sent out. I for one, have paid about 2/3 and have requested a final invoice to no avail.. I would think it would behoove him to finish these up so he can collect the remainder to help recoup the purchase price of the materials.. Im still waiting, The first rifle looks pretty darn good, I cant wait for a review/range report, then to see more rifles delivered, hell, that might even make me all warm and fuzzy inside.. Seeing how at times we were about to start acting like a lynch mob..

With that said, Im gonna make a captain and coke..

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

Well, I paid in full over a year ago. I have never received a timeline, a ship date, tracking info or contact from him in over 9 months. To say Im skeptical is being very nice.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

I wish I had better news about the range report, only because there is not one yet.
Significant obligations just would not allow for it this week.
I have not even peeked at it since taking the pictures.
I have cleared the table now and top on my list is to get to the bench and out.

Have faith guys!
I did just barely and still do that ALL these will get done and out......shortly HOPEFULLY FOR EVERBODYS SAKE!!!!!!!!!

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

I actually just got an email from George. He says he should have them all completed by the end of November. He is "into a good flow of rifles now." Mine should be done by the end of October. For what it's worth....

I'm not involved in this build but I've been keeping up with this thread. I truly hope everything works out before the end of this year for you guys.

Here is my gut talking
Now that the safety is issue is "resolved" so to speak, I think things will roll.
The fact you got a email is GOOD!
He has a substantial amount of money yet to be received, he needs and wants it no doubt.

Yes we have heard it all before, but this will end soon I'm convinced!
Warning! posting fwiw will get you, messenger shot on site comments.
Fuk it! Hang together, communicate and this will get done!

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

I hate to ask, but did all 25 of these "sell"? I see we are about two years since it started but I am curious... and I don't want to search through 16 pages to find out.

Re: *Announcing the 2009 Sniper's Hide Build Rifle

Sunday 10/09/11
Apex .260 rem - 18.5" barrel
Driving snow/rain all day, so much for Saturday.

Sunday 10/09/11
Conditions - 41-44 deg - Dry/Overcast
Steady wind - 10-12 mph - Steady 11 - 1 clock for the most part [pretty good]
Altitude - 4800

Brass all rem but for a couple of nosler
All rds fired with .30 SRT Shadow TI [sweet]
All rds fired prone with Atlas bipod
Scope - NF 3.5x15 [be nice for a touch more power with this old eyes, but I do like the weight/size]

168 rds fired with 1 no go [primer? to be determined]
20 rds fired of factory Southwest 139 scenar
148 rds of my loads all being .020 off
Mix of - 139 scenar - 142 SMK - 140 VLD hunting MG
Powders were RL17 - 4831sc - 4350 [mostly the latter two, need to work with 17]

Random thoughts:
The bad
Initially trying to chamber and extract WITHOUT FIRING was VERY challenging if not impossible almost.
After about 40 or 50 rds at the bench it became better but inconsistent.
Obviously the tolerances are tight and after smoothing out the paint on the bolt/action in some areas was much better.
At the range- by the end of the day and some cleaning/oiling the feeding was perfection but extraction was still for the most not fun at all and very heavy! and not due to heavy loads.
I'm pretty sure that chamber needs a good cleaning and hopefully gets better with time and is just paint,
but any thoughts are welcomed.

The good
It shoots or has the potential for better than myself
I'm use to shooting .50bmg for the most part [driving it] I did better when I let this shoot itself
Magazine and latch fit/function could not be better, no play at all and smooth
Feeding was 100%

Due to time I worked loads at 100 yds for ease and use of chrony
Shot only 5 groups at 300 yd, not too shabby either I thought.
Older chrony but I think she is fairly accurate hopefully and it was good to have an overcast day.
Really don't care much for shooting "groups", so now I hope to extend/ stretch out a bit... find a few loads and have some fun!

Need to load up a little heavier on some and see what happens
Got a couple of smileys on the RL17 when pushing into the 2735 range
Could not be happier, just gotta get the extraction smoothed out!
Some numbers as I measure below with some pics if you click here - <span style="font-size: 14pt"><span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="color: #FF0000">Apex</span></span> </span>Your mileage may/will vary of course
Copy and paste sucks, cant get my numbers chart to work. I'll update later maybe. Basically average velocity/extreme spread/group size
