OK Deplorables,
I sit on the board of our HOA. Out annual meeting is coming up in January. Normally this is a chance to mingle with folks you have no idea who they are because you haven't had anything to do with them since last year. That said, maybe you know the husband, but not the wife and vise versa.

This is the first year it's going to be hosted at my house. Last night we had a board meeting to hammer out world hunger, election results, weather, and the upcoming annual meeting. The HOA management representative (also a board member) is all freaked out about covid and how we should bring our own refreshments (BOB) and forego the o'deurves, keep the invittes to one member of the household, strict social distancing, bla, bla, bla.

I proposed that that we could still host the affair, and people who wanted to come could, and for the other, we could Zoom the meeting (we have to vote on stuff). It was accepted by the group.

When I told my wife about the BOB and no o'deurves, she made it quite clear that was not acceptable and we would serve food and the beverages. (before you guys go nuts and everyone wants to come over for free food and drinks, it's limited to property owners - we have a couple of lots available... for a friend).

Tonight I had a brain fart. Zoom is just a connection, it doesn't matter how many physical people, just that you have a camera and a microphone.

Here's my idea so I don't run afoul of the covid natzi's. Set up a PC in the family room with a camera and mic, set up a PC on the patio with a camera and mic, set up a PC in the dining room, maybe the kitchen, definitely not the bedroom, but you guys get the drift.

I would do it as a big FU to the folks who were to scared to show up without a mask, and we could still have a January party.

What do you guys think - any suggestions of what I've missed.

This thread is all in fun, so if you are too serious, you missed the point.

POA meeting a few weeks back. Guy that bought the land beside me came over to thank me for bushhogging some of his field for a wedding. Asked what I thought about having someone coon hunt cause dogs can't read posted signs. I advised on where it would be safe to shoot out a coon and where men with flashlights late at night might lead to a misunderstanding. Worked a plan cause we're neighbors.

POA meeting several yrs ago. Son was blasting large quant of tannerite cause him accomplished something and that was the treat. Neighbor (that's lived here all his life) came over, drunk, worried that the ground shaking explosions would cause the chickens in his houses to pile up and kill them. Me (armed), son (armed) and neighbor (presumably armed and undoubtedly drunk) worked out a solution where we try to wait to see the mud tracked in the rd from the chicken trucks before setting off any sizable explosions.

Who needs a POA? Just try to be a good neighbor. It's really not that hard.

Not the bedroom? WTF man?

Who in their right mind would live in a neighborhood with a hoa

Depends where you live.

Down here, people have a habit of doing things like painting their house orange, putting an above ground pool in the front yard, leaving vehicles on jack stands, etc.

I’ve seen non HOA neighborhoods have their property value drop substantially with a couple people moving in that do this.

Now, if you live in an area with more property, and potential home buyers don’t have to see the sack of shit who lives next door and decide not to buy your house, then I agree, it doesn’t make much sense.

Uh.. I get that you're trying to make everyone happy, which is never ever possible, ever..

the people that show up to your house can do whatever they're comfortable with. Like eat, drink,, and be normal...sit in a chair 6-8 feet away, whatever. If people don't want to come over, then set up a camera pointing at you and the group and they can tune into the party via zoom.

I'm simple.

I recommend you encourage them to vote via mail, and then you just decide what you want the outcome to be regardless of the actual results of the vote. Oh and tell them that you're still counting the votes days later and that some of the votes may or may not have made the deadline so a recount will be made later.

They should all be OK with that. No difference right?

The New Standard

Mail it in. We will count it - and tell you later, if you are a winner. We may make a "miscalculation" and will correct it later with the proper count.

exactly. No HOA in my neighborhood and it was a huge selling point. My neighbors are all cool. First time I met my neighbor and he says "hey man, im planning to put in a shop behind the house, you care?" and I said "not if you dont care about the shop I am going to build"...

new neighbor moves in across from us last week or so. Were both on corner lots along the frontage road and have 6' tall black metal fence the developer installed. Im talking to him and he says "I think we are going to build a fence, but the builder said we couldnt build one right next to the existing neighborhood fence so I dont know what to do" and I said "build your fence because the builder dont know shit and we dont have an HOA, all we do is ask you to make sure it looks aesthetically pleasing, but really we have no control over even that". Then I gave him a copy of the platte showing where he owns to and to keep the ditch line mowed if he can... cause the builder dont point that out to people.

Neighbors in my neighborhood are several miles off. They are still to close.

100% reasonable.

I have a couple of fat cows for neighbors. Some times they get together along the fence and swap gossip. They occasionally get a little loud and complain about this and that. I usually don't understand what they are saying but if I go throw some sweets at them. They quiet down and mosy off.

That is awesome! We raise cattle and have some horses. They never argue or bitch. I got three teenage boys in my house. I am getting to where I don't want to come home at night. The animals are relaxing

I'm with you on that, except on onothar property that I bought 30 some years ago, there was no HOA and now it's a ghetto

I'm simple.
The only people I care about being happy are 1) My wife (self preservation), and 2) my guests... in that order. If you don't want to show up for free food and drinks, then watch the rest of us having a good time on zoom like a good little sheep while we conduct the board meeting to make it legal. ;)

I think of this as a PC FU to the PC crowd.

Just closed on a house in a gated community. No amenities other than the gate, landscaping, lights, and so forth. Very low fees. I had always sworn off HOA communities, but the wife deciding she couldn't live without the house and knowing we'll lose 20-30K when we sell our current home were huge factors.

I spent hours pouring over the covenants. Unless you don't like maintaining your house and lawn and want to paint your house lascivious lavender, you'd be fine.

A close friend has a daughter and SIL who live in a very exclusive neighborhood. During a very contentious board meeting, the president of the HOA, who had been drinking, pulled a handgun and placed it on the table, but kept his hand on it. The SIL (former Ranger) took it from him, unloaded it and broke his nose. The other board members told him to resign and keep his mouth shut, or they would call the cops and all support the Ranger. The (former) president moved within a few months.

Get a friend that stands in the corner with a knife and a heavily blood stained shirt that has wide crazy eyes while breathing heavy, but never says anything.

Have him stand in front of the zoom camera. Never talking. Lol
