We beat it to death and I swear I never truely got a straight answer. So here is my answer with pics and measurments.
With these measurments you can cut up an AI mount to fit an S&B 12-50x56.
Depth of cut is .053. This will allow a feeler gauge of .013 to slide between the mount and scope once torqued in place.
These measuremnts will allow the bell of the scope to come in contact with teh front ring when the scope is pushed as far rearward as the cut allows.
I am not a fan of the rings contacting the erector housing as I have a mental condtion that makes me feel th erecoil will jack something up. The cut allows clearance so tha the erector is no where near the front ring whne the scope is pushed as far forward as the cut allows.
