Any builders here willing to shoot me a price?

Re: Any builders here willing to shoot me a price?

If you filled out your profile so that people knew what area you were in, you'll probably get a few recommendations of smiths close by. Life is a lot easier when you don't have to worry about shipping a rifle.

Re: Any builders here willing to shoot me a price?

I would strongly consider Krieger barrels.Price will be determined by options you go with. Stainless or blued? Fluted or not? Brake or no brake? Length etc.Could range anywhere from $400 to 800.

Re: Any builders here willing to shoot me a price?

Im sure i stand alone but i think i am done with Krieger barrels for a while. The last two i had were just average at best. More like poor really!! Brux has never sold me a bad barrel. Probably just my bad luck, as i have had several kriergers that were simply awesome. Im just going to take a brake from them for a bit! Lee

Re: Any builders here willing to shoot me a price?

Lee,

What exactly were they not doing? Fouling? Not grouping?
Were you using a chamber with a known track record that was properly cut? Why do you think it was the barrel blank?

I am not saying that they are incapable of making a bad barrel. Any human is. I would like to hear specifics that you based your opinion on.

I am still using Kriegers for everything from 22 to 338. Everyone has been stupid accurate, fast and easy to clean up once the owners absolutely feel the need to run a patch through. In addition to myself, I know several shops that use a lot of Kriegers and, again like myself, trust them totally.

Can you say for sure it was the barrel or could it have been the work done on the barrel?

I've chambered a lot of different barrels and can tell you this, Krieger and Bartlien cut, thread, chamber and shoot the same.............barrel after barrel after barrel. Krieger is so consistent it's almost unbelievable.

For one shooter to have two "bad" Kriegers..........I'd suspect something else like ammo, shooter, stock work or the way it was all put together.

Re: Any builders here willing to shoot me a price?

+1 on Terry and other people's comments re: Krieger.

I have Krieger barrels on several rifles (and I have had several more in the past), all finished by smiths that I know and trust, and they are all top notch barrels that deliver the results I expect every single time. Sorry about your difficulties with them, Lee, but I would be willing to bet that is the exception and not the rule with Krieger barrels.

As for barrel options...it all depends on what specifically you want/need and other factors like whether you need one next week or next month or next year. I recommend (in no particular order):

1) Krieger;
2) Bartlein;
3) Shilen;
4) LW; and
5) Broughton.

They're not listed in any certain order.

Shortly after you registered here you posted the copied post below as one of your early posts Sept 9, 08. You have built several rifles and sold them shortly after, some with less than 100rds fired and each was "a frickin laser" You had an excuse each time but according to every listing here and another forum NONE of them had accuracy issues, you just needed funds for "another build","you couldn't utilize the caliber in your area", "wife needed a new prosthetic leg",and on and on !!! 243AI, 6BR, 6.5 Creedmore, think a 22BR, can't remember all the "how about this caliber" post.

With your "limited experience" you are now claiming one of the leading barrel makers with a 6+ month backlog isn't producing a quality product????

Just wondering how you acquired all the expertise and not thinking it fair to make a public statement like this against Krieger when 2yrs ago by your own admission you didn't know shit from shinola about rifles???????

Loc: Central Illinois I have had a hard on for a 243ai for quite some time! I just dont know how to go about doing it. My budget is around 1300. This is what's making it difficult. I dont have any donor 700 actions to use thought about finding one? I have considered the savage route, but i just cant seem to bring myself to buy a savage. Maybe i should? I have herd that GA Precision can build you a barreled action for 1500 but i haven't made the phone call to find out the details. Does patriot arms offer a barreled action only. I not sure why i even posted this, I guess I am looking for some suggestions.
Need some help here in Illinois, Lee

PS I have never had anything build custom, and i am sill fairly new to rifle shooting. Been shooting now for about 2 years and i have to admit, this is an addicting sport. I have accomplished all i can with the shotgun sports (state title, state team multipull tournament wins) so i am off to learn as much as i can and accomplish as much as i can with the rifle sports. I wish i had the bigmoney to spend on a rifle, but i am raising a family, so there is a budget. This is were my problems lie. Thanks again Lee

OUCH!!!!!!

How many customs have you built in the ensuing 2 yrs ? I know how much it costs and also how long it takes from start to finish for a good custom even on a realistic budget.

Oh Snap.

Are you trying to tell me that posting almost 2000 times on the Hide does not make you "precision rifle omniscient" ? Now what am I to do?
