Any F1 racing fans?

A plank worn beyond a certain limit is already supposed to result in disqualification.
that would be true, but they did not say, they would be checking if the plank was worn past a certain limit, the article stated, they would be checking planks for evidence (of proposing) My wording in the earlier post did not properly state what the article said, so you have a good point.

Is it just me or is the ESPN feed of Sky coverage absolute shit picture quality this weekend at Silverstone?

Its like the frame rate is lower than all previous 2022 Rawe Ceeks...not smooth at all for FP1-3 or Quali.

Reminds me of Alono's crash many years ago. He said he hopped out as soon as he could so his mom wouldn't worry. The safety of those cars is just freaking amazing..

One of the best endings in a while. Congrats to the Smooth Operator on getting the monkey off his back!

I really don't think anyone could deny the halo saves lives, this is twice so far. One of the worst crashes I have seen since Romains crash. And as much as the Hide hates him, major props to George Russell DNQ himself to check on Zhou. Much respect for that.

Several have said he was a arrogant prick. I really haven't seen it. Maybe they just hate Mercedes, and it goes with the territory. I have always thought Russell is a really good driver. For sure a championship caliber driver.

Meh. Anybody at the top of the game (any game) can easily come off as arrogant. I don't really see that in Russell. I'd take arrogant over whiney, arrogant and constant victim of perceived racism any day though.

Seeing the wreck in real time and seeing the picture above, reminds me of a situation I faced several years ago. They say that in these incidents, time seems to slow down. It does.

Many years ago when my son and I were water skiing competitively, one day at practice, working on my fastest pass on fairly short line, I bought the farm. Hit the first wake wrong, tip of the ski dug into the wake and started flying though the air sideways. Flying over the second wake, I am thinking “this is going to hurt.” Finally after multiple rolls, I wind up next to the bank sitting upright, in water less than two inches deep.

My first thought was “well that wasn’t so bad.”

My next thought was “Damn, My Knee Hurts!”

Despite my dislike for HAM, I was watching his crash and the back end of the car just broke free - I don't think he did anything wrong. I debated posting anything but while thinking about it, the exact same thing happened to RUS.

I'm sure many participating in this thread have some experience with performance driving, but this just emphasizes how close to the edge they are at all times and it looks like the Merc's are really pushing the limits. I wonder if it has anything to do with the changes to alleviate some of the porpoising.

Well, that's disappointing.

"Daniel Ricciardo says he is committed to Formula 1 and determined to stay with McLaren to the end of his contract next year."

Him and VET need to step aside and let some new talent into the very shallow pool.

Ever notice that no matter what happens, Mercedes drivers are never penalized, unless the penalty does not affect Mercedes results or place on track?
I missed qualifying this week and forgot to record it. But, that's what happens when you're watching F18 E/F's flying loops and approach Mach 1 over the ocean.

However, I see Louis is teaching George well. "George Porgie" was crying about his 5 second penalty...boo hoo. Just like Crybaby bitching about 10 seconds for almost killing Max last year.

What I am shocked of is MSC...he's come a LONG way in 2 races. Must have been that incident with "Hair boy" that turned his skills on. Or maybe Gunter said...if you don't get your shit together, it's over bud.

The other thing is, talking of Ted Kravitz who I like, along with Croft is that Martin Brundle needs to be fired. Brundle is so freaking biased it's no longer palitable. PLEASE put either Paul DiResta (who is much more factual and less opinionated about personalities) or Karun Chandhok in (my preference as he's rock solid in analysis). Hell, Johnny Herbert would also be fantastic as he seem to be a regular comedian.

Absolutely classic there. I had this discussion wth my GF...who would you ride with in a passenger car. Me, personally, I'd ride with any of them and probably either feel quite safe or scared shitless.

However, GF is like...I'd let Max, Charles, Louis, and maybe Valteri or Lando drive...the others are too unpredictable. LOL. By no means would she ride with any of the "Crash Bandicoot (Nicholas)" , Yuki, Zhou, Danny Ric.

The overcapacity of these guys is quite astonishing. Running off the road and into the grass at 190-200, having the capacity to point your finger and scold going into a low speed turn is nothing short of proof. (not that I'm a huge Alonso fan).

I can't even understand half the words that are coming out of Paul DiResta.

He's Scottish...so of course you cannot. :) :). Even guys I know from the UK (Manchester) cannot understand the Scottish at times. That's part of the charm. At least that keeps the slobbering of Brundle fluffing Mercedes off the air.

Melbourne 2016

You have to click on the link to watch it.

Ahh yes. I was just getting back into watching F1 weekly round then after a year or two off and I've seen that replay many times; dont' recall it live though. Just didn't recognize the underside of the car. That he walked away from that was amazing. Though G-load, much less I'd imagine than the shunt Max took at Silverstone last year which had it been 10 years earlier he'd likely be dead. HANS, safety tub and that halo device have really done wonders - along with the tech-pro barrier.

Oh, great. Another relic planning to stick around. I sure hope the hint that RIC may be out is true, though.

I really like Paul's commentating. He has some great insight and is fun to listen to. I don't catch every single word, but I can get the gist of it. He's good!!

I have no trouble with his accent. Same with Guy Martin, for that matter.

I guess I was t paying attention to Kravitz today. But the fact that Mercedes’ shill Brundle wasn’t on today at quali was nice. Until they put Nico on. Puke.

After today if Ricciardo is still in F1 and If Vettel gets anything other than a Williams ride I may submit my resume of an over 40 driver with no open wheel experience. And I’m barely kidding. Vettel is a has been. Shocking in 2018 he was battling crybaby!!! But that German GP disaster ruined him.

Ricciardo has ALWAYS been overrated. Never ever understood that. I’d put Hulkenberg in way before Ricciardo. 7days a week. Besides The Hulk is more like the F-1 drivers of old like James Hunt and Eddie Irvine.

That was a fun race.

When Verstappen pitted the first time, I said “Ferrari has got to widen the gap to about 28 seconds and then pit Leclerc”. I no more got that out of my mouth than Leclerc put it in the wall. I yelled at the TV. My daughter asked me what happened and I told her that he pushed too hard. When the commentators started talking about stuck accelerators and tire deg, I was shaking my head. Old boy just pushed too hard at the wrong place on the track.

The move Russell put on Checo at the restart of the VSC was hilarious! Such a slick move. Caught him sleeping.

All in all, I thought it was an exciting race. Verstappen looks unstoppable. He has really matured in the last few years and will continue to be the man to beat as long as his car’s reliability remains solid.

I miss the US coverage by Speed, I really enjoyed their commentary.
AGREE! Spent a wonderful time at Indianapolis discussing aero and valve gear actuation with Steve. Our seats were just below their commentary booth and of course, we had radios and could listen in during the entire race. The best commentary was during the TV commercial breaks when they could talk freely among themselves.

Best comment I ever heard was from the director, Reminding Steve, Bob and David to watch what they say during the commercials, because fans all around the track had these radios and were listening in. (Including Brenda and myself.)

Finally watched the race late. Even if Charles wouldn't have crashed, Max would have enough undercut on him to effectively pass him on track with that long pit. But are people really wanting to crown Charles the WC yet? Too many mistakes from him, and Ferrari, plus unreliability issues will cost him the Championship. I just read somewhere if Charges were to win every single race the rest of the year (not likely) and Max finish 2nd in every single race right behind Charles for the rest of the year, Max will still win the Championship. While I don't think the points gap is unsurmountable to overcome, Charles and Ferrari are not the team that can overcome that kind of points deficit. At this rate, Ferrari might be 3rd in the constructors championship by the end of the year and they by far have the quickest car on the grid.

Looks like Sebastian Vettel has announced he is retiring at the end of this season.

A little mixed on this one. While Seb is certainly not the same driver he was a few years back, I still think he is better than 5 or 6 of the drivers currently occupying seats. I just don’t feel he was able to make the transition to the hybrids as well as others. I’ll never forget that crash he had when with Ferrari a few years back when he said over the radio “Just being back the F-ing V-10s”. It’s almost like he knew he would really never “fit” in this era of hybrid powered cars.

Be interesting to see who moves up.

Just read about Seb. IMO he's not been a top tier (aka, in the top 6) driver since about the 2nd half of 2018 (I know his 2018 record looks better though). That unforced error at the 2018 German Grand Prix (same conditions as Crybaby went off in 2017 whilst leading) ruined him. The 2019 Canadian GP didn't help him get any mojo back especially with Chucky now in the stable when it became obvious who the future of Ferrari belonged to; especially since Seb couldn't deliver previously WITH a good car (aka, 2018 season). Sure he may have finished in top five in 2019; but that 2018 year did him in mentally (maybe not winning the championsship combined with Ferrari's usual treatment of drivers). I can think of MANY drivers that Ferrari either ruined or set back or fired.

Crybaby, despite my distaste for him, not only came back from Nico getting in his head in 2016, but didn't let the "off" in Germany destroy him and as a result he now has 3 more WDC to his name.

Now, can we get rid of Latifi, Stroll (I know..pipe dream), Tsunoda, Alonso and ESPECIALLY Ricciardo? No, not Crybaby; as much as I dislike Crybaby he's still a top tier driver (but I agree his politics turn me totally off).

ps...I guess it could be Seb's hair that's caused his decline...or his love of Greta Thunberg.

pps. I'm betting Aston is wishing they'd kept Checo. Not that I'm overly impressed with Checo as he's back to "Mr. Inconsistent" but Seb has been AWFUL this year.

Papa Lawrence should sell to Andretti. Pipe dream, but....

ALO is a good driver but he should ride off into the sunset with Seb. They can take RIC with them.

The rumors of Logan Sergeant replacing LAT next year are kinda fun

Checo def deserved the RBR seat. Not too many drivers can take that seat and make it work. Too much pressure at RBR. It's like Valterri when he took over the second seat in Mercedes. Not the top driver but will consistently score points for you.
