SPR-A4
It was 1/2 assed factory bedded and I re-did it correctly.

Added CDI bottom metal and AI mags.

Love the rifle. Need more play time and range. On the fence on adding a bolt knob. Mine shoots 168's and 175 in one ragged hole.

Very nice. What's the difference between the stocks on the A2 and A4? I'm a little confused about that.

What glass and rings are you using?

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

To get back on track.

FN SPR A5 24" factory fluted.
Owned about 8mo or so a little over 900rnds. Mostly FGMM 168,175 and SWammo 175 with a batch of 155 scenars in near future.
Great rifle. It makes me scoff at people who say chrome lined barrels won't shoot well enough for a precision rifle.
If you like the McM A5 just get this one and run with it. You might want to swap a CDI bottom metal into it. But that's about all it will ever "need" except perhaps a slight touch up on the factory trigger.

Not sure exactly where Heflin is in AL. But if you want to meet up one day and shoot it your welcome to.

Heflin is East of Birmingham, just inside the AL/GA line on I20. Do you shoot over at the range in Hoover?

I've got one on order. It's a A2 with the A4 stock from Tactical Coordination. Mike is rebedding the action, threading the barrel, adding a Smith Vortex flash hider and a Timney trigger. Hope I'm able to take possession late next week.

I've been really impressed about all of the positive feedback concerning these rifles. Some minor complaints but all easily corrected. No one ever gripes about accuracy or durability. Usually bedding jobs and a trigger that needs tweaking.

FN SPR A1 x2, one 308 and one 300wsm. Both were "hot glue" bedded from the factory. I sure it isn’t hot glue but that is what is looks like, LOL.

300wsm shoots so well I have not touched the bedding, but it is lightly modified.
Forsale005.jpg

Best 5 shot group to date was two 5 shot groups into .19”ctc and .13” ctc at 100y.

The 308, I decided to buy a second A1 stock so I could run a floor plate trigger guard and bedded it in that stock. It changed form a .5-.6" grouper to a .4" grouper at 100y with reloads. Round count... The 300 is around 300 rounds but I would have to double check. 308 is somewhere near 500 +/- a hundred.

How do I feel about them? Thinking of selling the 300wsm as I have not shot it now in almost 2 years, no real reason why, it’s just too nice to leave sitting around underutilized. I have been side tracked by my 5 and counting 308's. It's a good quality rifle and the last round fired dropped a 4x5 mulie with a 190 berger vld strategically placed in the spine.

The 308 is going strong and accompanies me to the 1000y range on every trip. I smack a steel plate with it every hundred yards from 300 to 1000 and back, usually 1 shot each hundred unless the wind is playing with me, then stow it for next time. I got a deal on some old 173 FMJ-BT long range lake city ammo and it tracks perfectly with my pre mk4 leupold m3 dial for the 30-06 173g round. I about freaked last trip as I printed 3 into 6" at 1000 but then of course round 4 and 5 opened it up to the normal 1.5 moa group this ammo tends to print. But still, thats not bad for 1991 government surplus ammo.

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

Fn Spr A5 M,20 inch non fluted barrel with 8900 rounds down the tube and the most accurate rifle I have ever owned, beats my 1969 40x hands down.Put pillars in and glass bedded the rifle,as far as the magazines go I have been using the 4 rd ones 5 years now,and not single problem.I dont know where everybody comes up with the factory magazines being junk, think they just want to convince themself to buy the lastest fad equipment.

Now thats awesome!

Have you noticed any changes over that round count. Just wondering if your velocity got higher as the crome polished

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

Just DO IT !!

My SPR A1 shoots around 1/2 moa. I adjusted the trigger to about 2/5 lb. (easy to do.) I have 2,600 rounds down range with it. I have noticed the less I clean it the more accurate it is. Only takes 5 min to clean with the crome lined barrel.

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

I got my FN SPR A4 from Mike at tactical coordination last week. I had him thread the barrel for my supressor and install a bolt knob. I picked up a near new IOR 3.5-18 with digital illumination at the SH exchange. We went to the range yesterday and can tell you that it is a sweet shooting and very accurate rifle. I had no issues whatsoever. The barrel didn't look like I put 30 rounds through it. I had never handled the FN and bought it because of the sweet deal Mike was offering. I have no regrets and my 17 year old son said it was the easiest to shoot. He shot about a 1inch ( 5 round ) group at 100 yards. We're just getting into the long range discipline and really appreciate the perspectives and opinions on the hide.

Libertyman777,
You should be very pleased...it's well worth the wait.

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

Forgot to add that I have never used a brush in the bore, just a tight fitting patch and some Kroil, set the factory trigger to 2 lbs, also added a Bills Tatical bolt knob on it myself, and is topped off with a Nightforce NXS 12-42x56.
My rifle still groups under .25 inch anyday of the week using Handloads even after almost 9000 rds.Dont know if the chrome lining has anything to do with it or not

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

I bought mine about eight months ago. The first design with the 26" barrel. It was unfired. I took it apart, cleaned and lubed everything and adjusted the trigger to about three pounds. I added a Seekins rail, Burris XTR rings and a Vortex 6.5-20X50mm Viper. It's only got about sixty rounds through it. Last week I was having trouble with another rifle so I went in and got the SPR to see if the problem was the guy behind the trigger. With FGMM 168s it went .83, .68 and .45. One last group was with SW Ammo 175s and it was .35. Grps were shot off a bipod from a rickety patio table. The reason it has only sixty rounds it that weather has kept me from longer yardage and at 100 it is boringly accurate.

You are going to be one happy camper.

IOR scope and Badger rings. I believe the A4 has the McMillian stock and is factory bedded. Mine shot good out of the box but once I tore it down I was not satisfied with the factory DBM or bedding. CDI bottom metal and a little Devcon solved that.

Some SPR info-

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

These guns shoot, period. And they are very easy to load for.

Mine likes 44.3 Varget, winchester brass, 2.815 OAL, 175SMK, garden variety cci or win primer. Brass neck sized with a lee collet die.

The CDI bottom metal is recommended for this gun. I also rebedded mine and skim bedded the bottom when I put the bottom metal in, but truth be told the gun shot about a half inch at 200Y before I touched it.

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

Guys, this is awesome. I CAN'T WAIT.

One more question. Factory trigger vs Timney aftermarket.

Are all the SPR factory triggers user adjustable? Some seem to like it.

But I've heard that others are replacing the factory trigger with the Timney.

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

I have had my SPR A1 for 16 mon. Count at 500 ish- this guy was one of the first 200 out of FN/ Win custom shop. It was not beaded from factory and I have not done anything but shoot it. I purchased used and the previous owner add a Jewel trigger- I like this trigger (personal choice). Glass is a MK4 Lupe 6.5/20/50. This guy regularly shoots .5 moa best to date is .247 CTC @ 100 yds. Punched a group a month ago at 200 yds which was sub MOA.

Maybe the new ones after the move may have a different trigger... but my two were very easy to adjust down to 2.5 ish and remove any take up or over travel. MUCH easier than anything remington has ever dreamed up.

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

Gentlemen,

Thanks for all the input. There is certainly an enthusiastic following behind these rifles. I cannot wait to get mine.

Makes me wonder what would have been had Winchester stuck with the pre-64 action and it had become the basis for our military's .30 sniper rifles.

But all that aside, it looks like FN dealt a winning hand.

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

The early SPRs have the standard Mod. 70 trigger. These are one of the simplest most efficient triggers ever unless you want to be down in the ounces. There are threads with a tutorial for adjusting here on the Hide. I don't know whether the A2 has the M70 trigger.

Give us a range report when you get the rifle. I'm interested in the offer from Tactical Coordination.

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

I owned the earlier version with the 26" barrel and the HS precision stock. The magazine did not feed that well so I upgraded it to use the CDI bottom metal and bedded the rifle. I believe that converting to the CDI is a must if you want a DBM rifle. This gun shot great and would hold 3/4" at 200.

I own the A3G (FBI) and really like the McMillan A3 stock better than the HS precision. I like the weight and balance of the gun and it shoots 1/2 MOA. Note do not have as much time on this as the previous.

Got off the phone with Mike just a little while ago. The rifle is currently being threaded, bedding will happen shortly. It'll ship either the end of the week or the first of next week. I'm pumped!!

I have the exact same rifle without the Timney and with a Badger handle added. Frankly, as crisp and easy to adjust as the factory trigger is, I did not and do not see any reason to pay for a premium trigger. I have the Williams bottom metal but will be experimenting with the factory DBM. After trying it on a Savage .223 I bought on this site, I think the CDI is great stuff, but I figured I would give other options a try before writing them off.

The rifle shot well under MOA with FGMM 168s when I was home on leave. Once I am back in Colorado I am going to load up some 175 and 178 ammo and see how it shoots. I expect this to be a .5 MOA rifle once load work is complete and my 3-9 SS is replaced with a 5-20. Overall, the quality is exactly what I expected, which is to say excellent.

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

I (or should I say R&D Precision) built mine from parts, most of which I got used from here on SH.

FN-SPR
McM A3
CDI
Rock Creek
Badger
Atlas
Seekins
Vortex
T.A.B.
etc.

I think I posted a pic of this rifle in another one of your threads.

I'm really tempted to pull the trigger on one of these to go with the SS 5-20HD that I ordered. Any advantages of going with the fluted barrel?

They look great, maybe a little better balanced, moves center of gravity closer to the shooter while shaving off a couple ounces and more surface area for cooling. But primarily looks.

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

That's a badger fte break.

Fluted barrels don't gain you much in my opinion. I got flutes because I had a half/off coupon on the barrel.

If you want it pillar bedded, you have to have someone do it(unless you are good at it).

The A3G is bedded by GAP last I heard. I don't know about pillars.

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

I have one that was stocked with a McMillan A4. Worked with Scott Mcree and it now resides in one of his chassis systems. Scoped with a Lupy 6.5-22 TMR and suppressed with an Elite Bravo 30 can. Will get some pics up as soon as I can.

Re: Any FN SPR owners out there?

I am picking up a PBR XP Monday with an A4, I will take it out and let you all know how she shoots. It is 24" fluted so I hope it likes 168 FGMM as that was we shoot. Z

Well, they are shooters. I posted it in another thread but just loading up some different weight projectiles and some middle of the road powder throws, I found two loads that were sub MOA and one that approached .5 MOA. Awesome platform.
