Now the texture job

Re: Anybody ever modify the B&C tactical stock??

Not much of a update but on Friday when I was planning on doing the texture I was sanding down the PC-7 and went a bit too much on the tip of the stock making it way to curved and I didn't like the screw up, so I had to put a few layers of PC-7 on the tip, let it cure and sanded it down today.

Got it perfectly smooth this afternoon but I wanted to lay some fiberglass resin on top to give it a nice hard coat.

Here are the pics before the fiberglass. I put on the last coat of resin 2 hours ago so I'll be going back on tuesday, sanding it down properly then applying the Marine-tex for the texture.

Here is a picture of the tip before when I sanded it down too much:

Re: Anybody ever modify the B&C tactical stock??

Well the texture is complete.

Got to the stock today, finished sanding the fiberglass and made sure everything is nice and even, then prepared it for M-tex.

Marine-tex is awesome to use. I layed it on the section I wanted it textured and after a min or two I used a zip-lock bag to get the texture.

The product is perfect for this, applys easily, cleans off without a problem and hardens fairly quick at a good temperature.

Spent about 30 min trying to figure out how I wanted to tape off the rifle.

Think I did a decent job.

Now paint after and the stock modifications are done for now

Re: Anybody ever modify the B&C tactical stock??

Thank you Darrenk and JRB

I'm happy with the outcome so far, feels much better in my hands and with the marine-tex, grips great.

Now onto paint...

paint the whole thing olive drab or leave the texture black?

Looks very nice by the way. looks almost like this B&C stock minus the hook.

I would have purchased that stock if they had it for a Right hand, SA savage 10FP and shipped to Canada

But I'd be curious right now to see how this one shoots compared to the untouched bell & carlson tactical stock

Thanks guys, and that does look good.

I'll have to see, I might just the stock olive drab and leave the texture black and if I don't like it, then I can just spray the texture olive drab again.

Should have it painted sometime next week

Re: Anybody ever modify the B&C tactical stock??

Good job! And great post! I've been thinking of rounding the boxy front end of my B&C as well but once I saw this I decided to wait for you to finish. I have two bubbles under the fiberglass that I know of on the front. I hope I don't run into the hole you did but you did a great job with that. Looks like it is time to start on mine.

Thanks guys!
It just took time and patience. There were days when I was getting fed up with the fiberglass smell that I wanted to rush the job but of course it would have come out half-assed.

Some people have told me that mixing epoxy and fiberglass weakens the epoxy...but even on the PC-7 label it says its fine to use with fiberglass products.

*IF* that were the case, and if I was re-doing this, I'd fill all the air pockets with fiberglass resin and let if harden inside completely and not use any epoxy based products.

But the epoxy and everything seems strong on my stock, no flaking and seems very solid.

I'll possibly be heading out to the range this sunday so I'll test the rifle with a friend of mine.

Re: Anybody ever modify the B&C tactical stock??

excellent job. my vote is for the "tac-ops" style green & black paint. I just love that contrast.

At this point, paint is really an after thought, you've completed all the hard work. You could paint it bright pink and it would still be 10x as nice as it was factory.

Re: Anybody ever modify the B&C tactical stock??

Well some update:

Painted the rifle saturday afternoon, let it dry and put it together.

Sunday, I met up with a friend(eg6ajk) at his gun club and we zero'd in the rifle. The groups as my friend which is a much better shooter and has more experience then me, told me that the rifle shoots pretty good. Groupings were about less then a inch together @ 100yards, using reloaded bullets he put together for me. So that me

about the stock, IMO it seems to feel a bit more solid then before. No spongy feeling at all, its rock solid. I picked up my friends Savage 10FCP with the McMillan stock and mine even feels a lot more solid. Just my own observation.

Re: Anybody ever modify the B&C tactical stock? <DONE!

I've been thinking quite hard about buying one of these, but the forearm just isn't doing it for me. Nor is going thru a bunch of crap to modify it. Allthou I think yours came out quite well!

I wish B&C would tweak it a bit so the forearm isn't so mongo sized.
