I've been working on a data book for my team for the past few weeks. This post is a little late since I already ordered the stuff but I was wondering if anyone had used the Rite in the rain copy paper they sell? I've got five reams of the tan on the way, thought if someone had experience with it and there were any lessons to be learned I'd try to get ahead of the ball game before I start wasting some expensive paper.

TIA

Phylodog,

Are you talking about this RITR product?

If so it's the stuff that I use for my data books and what I've based all the data book pages on my website on. It's super easy to work with so long as you use a laser printer, it punches out easy, and looks good when it's all said and done.

If you can wait about an hour my wife will be home and she can PM you. She is a manager for a copy center and she has used it for me several times before.

She called right after I hit submit

Yes laser printer only...."the toner used in laser printers won't run like the ink used in inkjet printers will" is what she told me

So a laser printer and copier and you should be GTG

should work fine,
pencils, fine tipped Sharpies and a few other pens will work but in wet weather ? seems like the pencil works best (? may be better pens but i'm cheap)

Re: Anybody ever use Rite in the rain copy paper?

Thanks for the replies guys. I've been using the stuff in a Storm data book for several years and it's held up great. I write on it with a pen I got from Rite in the rain and it's worked when wet pretty well.

I've got laser printers at work that I'm planning to use to print everything up. Been a real learning experience, I'm much more familiar with MS Excel than I was a month ago. The new books should suit our purposes much better and result in much more accurate and in depth documentation of our training.

TM this is the paper I ordered LINK. I'm going to print 4 data book pages to a sheet, then cut it in half and have the books punched and bound.

We're RnR dealers, and have extensive experience with their products. If you go to a print shop, tell them to put the machine setting to 'recycled paper' and it should go fine. Sometimes the RnR gets jammed up or pulled sideways in the high speed laser printers. Just do test runs before having them print the whole ream.

If you are doing it on a home/office size laser printer, I would do one side at a time, and let the machine and paper cool after you do a bunch. Then do the back side. It should be fine. If you are going to have them coil punched, make sure the shop centers it nicely, they may have to remove the last die on the end, so you dont get a 'half moon' hole punched. Once they set it up and punch some regular printer paper to your satisfaction, then you can let them punch the 'good stuff.' If you are using some kind of cover, have them punch the covers at the same time, so the holes will line up perfectly... These little common sense tips will make the books look very nice...

We have our books offset printed at the RnR factory, but to print one special cover page, we have used the local fedex and office max with generally good results.

Stay safe out there. Team Storm

Much appreciated Storm Tactical. I wouldn't have thought about letting the paper cool between printing the front and back. The tips about the punching will help also.
