I'm almost ready for my AN/PVS 14 Gen3. It will have a Litton Autogated tube. I'm excited about the whole deal.

But it is maxing out my cash flow. Once I pick up the monocular and a weapons mount for it on eBay, I'll be done for a while.

My question is, has anyone used a quality NV monocular with iron sights? I'm thinking that front sight focus would not be an issue and I'm sure the target will be pretty blurry but it should be okay for close in targets right? What about the rear aperture?

Or, should I keep the monocular head mounted over my weak (left) eye and try to superimpose the sight picture using some type of tritium illuminated sights?

Or should I just forget all of that and save up for a used NV compatible sight? Is there anything out there besides Aimpoint and Eotech?

Thanks,

Paul

i hate to say it aint gonna happen with irons but....it aint gonna happen.

you can run pvs 14 behind almost any day optic with no need for illum reticle. i do it on almost every piece of glass i own. i have the universal adapter from tnvc for that.

if you want to run it head mounted, get ya an ir laser of some sort. if your wallet is hurt look at the lasermax uni-ir laser. there is a thread in here with pictures from ir-v or something like that.

Where are you planning on mounting the 14 in relationship to the rear sight.
In front of the rear sight, the eye relief on the 14 makes this not a workable deal.

If you can see the front sight clearly in a 14, three-five feet in front of you is about as far as you can ID anything.
When the 14 is properly focused where you can see 20-25 yards and out, the front sight post is a bare blur, you know its there, but useless and you want it gone.

Head mounted, (shooting right handed)(14 on left), will hit the left side of the rifle before you can ever pick up the sights. To use the sights from the shoulder, the 14 has to be flipped up out of the way.

You'd be better served with a NV compatible sight. I use aimpoint and have not shopped any others.
